All beaches of Phangan and the best beaches of the island - a description from personal experience

I continue my series of review articles on the beaches of the main resorts of Thailand. I already have beach reviews Phuket. Samui. Phangan. Pattaya. Koh Chang. Krabi. Phi Phi. Koh Lanta and Hua Hin. Now take a look at the beaches of Phangan.

All of them are divided into major and minor, andare also listed from Thong Salah in the south (as from the island’s main pier) - and then clockwise. To better understand where and what is on Phangan, look at the map of the beaches at the end of the post, there you can click on the beach marker and go to the detailed description with photos. Below I present a description of the main beaches of the island of Phangan, although there still remains a small piece of work, as the secondary beaches are a little more than I managed to visit.

List of the best beaches of Phangan

If you are traveling for a long time, then I would choose a place to stay from the area Shritana beach. There is a good choice of housing, with many options by the sea. Developed infrastructure, and in general a good place for wintering. As an option for longstey, great Chaloklum - one of the best beaches on the island and developed by the standards of Phangan district. And if you are not confused by life far from the sea, then feel free to consider Thong Sala districtwith its excellent infrastructure.

If you go on vacation for a couple of weeks, the choice of the best beach depends on your preferences. Ban Tai Beachflowing smoothly into Tong Sala is not suitablefor a beach holiday, and as a convenient location for active movements around the island, besides there are quite a lot of budget hotels. Full Moon Party Party, famous for its parties, Haad Rin beach, suitable for parties for party-goers, and for rest of sealers at other times, since Had Rin is a great beach in itself.

Beaches are suitable for a relaxing and inexpensive beach holiday Haad Yao and Haad Salad. These are western, shallow beaches, but they look attractive and have some infrastructure. Yogam and vegans it makes sense to settle on Sritana, there are at least two yoga centers and a bunch of various healthy cafes. Those who are looking for an expensive beach holiday in a reasonable separation from civilization, I recommend beaches Tong Nai Pan. Well, and those who want to see the lost paradise without people and almost without civilization - you are on Boat beach and Haad Yuan.

Hotels in Phangan>

Phangan is a small island that cancross from north to south for 15-20 minutes, not more. If you live on the western, more developed half of the island, then wherever you settle down, everything will be “near”. But the eastern side is still very little inhabited (with the exception of Haad Rin in the south-east), and I personally would not consider it for myself. But this is my opinion, and in fact it may not coincide with anyone else. Be sure to ask questions in the comments, I will try to advise something specific. Your advice is also welcome.

Main beaches

Thong Sala Beach

Thong Sala is the island’s main port town.Phangan, which also has its own beach, although the beach is called conditionally. It is difficult to rest on the coast, where the two largest piers on the island with fairly dense traffic traffic are located. Piers take boats and ferries with thousands of tourists who fly Tong Salou without stopping, and dissolve in the jungles of Phangan. There is really nothing to look at Tong Sala - this is the administrative and commercial center of the island, where a large number of commercial and state institutions are concentrated. People come here to buy food or clothes, change money or buy ferry tickets.

But few can boast that he spentBeach holiday Tong Saly. Part of the coast here is sewn into concrete, and the rest does not look the most attractive, for a beach holiday, way. Oil traces of diesel fuel in the water, sea garbage on the shore - all this looks not the most dreadful, but not the most seductive way. Tong Sala is rather a technical beach, a place for contemplation, a snack, a couple of shots, or for waiting for your ferry to the mainland. All more or less decent beaches begin after the outskirts of the town of Tong Sala, and I strongly recommend moving there. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Beaches Shritan (Sri Thanu Beach) and Ao Niad (Ao Niad)

In addition to the beach, Shritan, which is actually SyTanu, there is the same beaches Zen Beach and Naked Beach, which, as it turns out, are not independent beaches, but simply local names of sites Shritana. Complicated? In fact, not so much when you ride around and you will see with your own eyes the differences and features of all the beach locations. Be that as it may, Shritan is good anywhere, no matter where you decide to go to the sea. I would call it a paradise for children and yogis, because there are many secluded places for solitude and introspection, and the sea is so shallow that even a cat will not sink there.

Shritana at the very beginning of the beach is a classic of the genre. Clean sand, resorts, restaurants, sun beds with umbrellas made of palm leaves, cocktails, beautiful sea, completely occupied the first line. Zen Beach is a place for parties, meetings with like-minded people, beach holidays and detachment from the world. In a word - Zen. But Naked Beach is already a savage, compared to the first two, and it is chosen when nothing helps. There are few people, resorts and bars on Naked Beach, but a lot of silence, waves and grass on the shore. In general, the charm of Shritan is that there is a place for every taste. Beach Had Chao Pao (Haad Chao Pao)

If we talk about the beaches on the western part of Phangan, then I would say that Chao Pao is a secret beach. Not because everyone who found out about Chao Pao is immediately thrown into the sea, but because you will not find him without a running start. The beach is hidden from casual glances behind a large palm grove, there are no big signs to the beach, and on the Internet there are almost no reviews that are especially enthusiastic about it. And Chao Pao, with all this, deserves at least one day to visit and seale, which I, in my time, enjoyed and did.

The first line of Chao Pao is occupied by resorts, customerswhich are almost the only visitors to the beach. Awesome uncrowded beach, combined with tropical tranquility, rather small, but beautiful sea and a pirate bar near the rocks create a very soulful atmosphere. Clean sand, palm trees, smooth entrance to the sea, without stones, and all this is only yours. You can really get here, either by turning the wrong way, or after carefully studying the map - only then you will know that there is a beach in this part of Pangan that you didn’t even know about. Haad Yao Beach

If you are allergic to compatriots, then I do notI recommend Haad Yao as a place for long-term stay on vacation. It absolutely does not bother me, just according to my observations (and this is very subjective) on Haad Yao I very often heard Russian speech. And this is not surprising - our people like to hang out on good beaches, and Haad Yao is from this category. Long, without broken bends, clean, well maintained, with a good tourist infrastructure and a lot of services.

The sea, of course, is small in Panga, but incrediblebeautiful, especially in sunny weather. A beach holiday on Haad Yao is suitable for those who do not need serious infrastructure, although in general there is everything you need, from shade to cocktails. You can come and savage, with his rug, the main thing is to look carefully at his feet, and if you get a blue plastic pipe that leads from houses to the sea - then choose a place away, and preferably upstream. Local features, not going anywhere. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Haad Yao Beach

Haad Yao Beach

Haad Salad Beach

Haad Salad is considered one of the medium beaches onPhangan The medium ones, in terms of their size, distance from the benefits of civilization, their infrastructure and external characteristics - Haad Salad is not something outstanding. It is located at the entrance to the most (well, or one of the most popular) beach on the island - Mae Haadu, at the far northwest of Phangan andoccupies no more than half a kilometer of the coastline. The infrastructure is basically the one that is offered by several resorts adjacent to the beach, that is, there is even less civilization than on Haad Yao.

The beach itself has a standard Pangan set.characteristics: relative shallow water, fine light sand, a small amount of palm trees on the shore, clean entrance to the sea in the center of the beach, rocky bottom along the edges and crowded. The beach is quite famous and is not in the wilds, so people come here for permanent residence, and travel from other beaches. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Haad Salad Beach

Haad Salad Beach

Mae Haad Beach

Beach-tale, beach-joy and just a beautiful place.for a beach holiday. One of the most famous, revered and visited beaches of Phangan, which is always popular with tourists with and without cameras. Its main feature is the coastal profile and the neighboring island, with which Mae Haad is connected by an underwater sand bar. At low tide, the spit is exposed and guests of the island enjoy a stunning landscape like a movie - a path in the middle of the sea. In general, people like it very much and Mae Haad remains the same photo model for the majority of those who visited Phangan. After Malibu beach.

The infrastructure around Mae Haad is not muchcorresponds to its popularity, here, just as in Haad Yao and Haad Salad, there were no major entertainment and shopping venues. There are hotels, a couple of shops, cafes. Near the beach there are two big sights: the Wang Sai waterfall with an adjacent natural park and Bar 360. Mae Haad is a rather crowded place during the day and in season, while the prices for everything, in principle, are average for the hospital. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Malibu Beach and Chaloklam Bay

One of the most famous and loved by touristsbeaches of Phangan. I am talking about Malibu, which is part of the large Chaloklum beach on the northern edge of the island. You can drive here in a straight line from Thong Saly and thousands of tourists use it. The beach is really crowded, popular, chosen. It is from all sides already photographed and described by bloggers of all stripes. But Malibu is worth it, this is a really cool tourist beach with excellent sea, clean shore, excellent infrastructure and service.

Malibu is in the left half of Chaloclam, slightly apart, in its own, separate corner of the coast. It is strikingly different in appearance from the Pangan beaches: a large space with white sand, a beautiful garden with casuarine balls, shallow water with the exciting color of the sea is a real bounty on an island not the most famous in the world. That is why it was called Malibu - it is great. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Malibu Beach

Malibu Beach

Bottle Beach

The northernmost and most inaccessible beach onthis part of the island. With all this, it is one of the most famous and popular among admirers of exotic and authentic island holidays. Bottle Beach is located at the end of a difficult dirt road, which is crossed by small rivers twice (and you have to wade through them knee-deep). Only drivers of off-road vehicles or scooters will be able to get here by private transport, and the passenger in some places will have to be seated. Well, or you can take a taxi-boat and get to the beach by the sea, this is a way for cheaters.

Very beautiful, long beach, with small and lightsand, several resorts on the coast, the service and services of which is the infrastructure of the beach. Several bars and massage gazebos, kayak rentals and deck chairs all over the beach - everything is here for windless and uninterrupted seals. Rare tourists rarely get here, so the beach remains poorly populated even during the high season. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach

Pearl of the east coast of Phangan. In principle, the entire east of the island can be considered a pearl for the fact that it is difficult to get here. There are more untouched lands and you can still feel the atmosphere of a wild island. Uninhabited, not digged with construction equipment, with terrible roads in the jungle, this region hides such nice beaches like Tong Nai Pan brothers. True, recently the road to these two beaches has significantly improved and this has led to an increase in the influx of independent tourists.

With all that said, Tong Nai Pan Noah remainscharming, place with a classic infrastructure of the beach, baby, although there is already a little more than a couple of bars and a massage parlor. There is a network mini-market, there are a number of pharmacies and Thai shops, many offers for tourists, from rental to tours to other regions of the kingdom. And the beach is a shady paradise. White sand, dense vegetation, chaise lounges, shallow waters, infrequent waves, and the absolute absence of all kinds of coastal fortifications. The beach retains its natural beauty and is remembered forever. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach

Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach

Ao Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach (Ao Thong Nai Pan Yai)

And this beach is a neighbor of Tong Nai Pan Noah. They are about equal in size, but each has its own infrastructure and the Nai Pan Noi has a slightly greater depth of the sea, which can be a criterion for someone when choosing a beach on Phangan. In principle, when viewed in a straight line, they are within walking distance from each other, but they are separated by a rather high hill. So moving between beaches on foot is too tedious. Even though there are relatively good roads between them.

Tong Nai Pan Yai Beach - wide, with a clean entrancegood light sand and under constant supervision of the staff of adjacent resorts. The place attracts with its authenticity and the absence of tall buildings or various kinds of coastal fortifications, which landowners so often and eagerly abuse, in an attempt to save the monstrously expensive land on the coast from being blurred. Haad Rin Nok Beach

The same beach. Yes, yes, this is the same Haad Rin, where the original Full Moon Party parties take place. I especially emphasize the "original" because the entertainment format has become very popular, parties gather thousands of crowds, and the full moon happens only once a month. Therefore, all over Phangan you can already count three or four clones created with the same goals - to collect money from drunk young people to entertain the mass tourist. Haad Rin Nok among them was and remains the first, most important and most famous. All these buckets here with alcohol, a specific music format and non-stop dancing until dawn is Haad Rin Nok.

In the morning the beach is licked clean after drunkbattles, and Haad Rin Nok turns into a huge space, flat as a football field. Trees remained in isolated cases, the entire first line is built up with bars and restaurants, there is no shadow at all. The shallow water is such that at low tide the water runs off to 50-60 meters leaving you a dense wet bottom, which you can walk on heels (I have not tried, but I guess). Swimming here is really only at high tide. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Leela Beach

Lila Beach does not like everything from the first hit, therefore, it is highly recommended to come here only in good weather. The peculiarity of Haad Seekantang (this is the original toponym of the beach) is that there are mangrove trees along the whole coastline, between which you can hide from people and the sun or lie in a hammock, and at high tide the beach is almost completely hidden under water. Kupable, beautiful, wild, with a couple of built up wastelands and a rather popular techno-bar.

Most of the coast is built up very simple.bungalows that literally blinded on the knee of the fact that the sea threw ashore. On the one hand, it looks unattractive, but on the other, the beach does not remain uninhabited, hippies and people who are just tired of hot water constantly come here. There are a couple of capital resorts, a beautiful bridge on the rocks and a sunset horizon overlooking Samui Island. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Had Rin Nai Beach

One of the two beaches of Had Rin, whichlocated on the southern tip of Phangan. Had Rin Nay is a long beach facing west and the famous Full Moon Party is NOT held here. But there is a well-developed infrastructure with services for tourists and chain stores, a huge choice of housing of different levels, good roads, a pier and rental offices. Haad Rin Nai is more a resort-technical beach than a rave one. Phangan is considered to be an island of youth and fun, but all of this refers to another Haad Rin.

The beach itself is quite narrow.a strip of sand that heats in high water, in some places completely blocking the foot passage along the sea. Local resorts are forced to somehow protect their property from blurring, and there are often beach spots that are disfigured by stone or concrete superstructures. This, of course, helps, preserves the coast, but seriously damages the attractiveness of Haad Rin Nai. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Ao Ban Thai Beach

The best option for those who gather a lotsee, sunbathe a little and live autonomously, not in a hotel. Ban Tai is one of the longest beaches in Phangan with good infrastructure, which even has hypermarkets and a world-class hospital. Here, the mass of low-cost housing, a very convenient location relative to the key locations: piers, tourist infrastructure, road interchanges. The beach has average characteristics, in my opinion. It is pleasant to look at him, but not everyone wants to swim.

On Ban Tae harsh shallow water, not the cleanestbottom, silty water, many wastelands, many untidy areas where deposits of marine debris roll. Again - this is one of the most eroded shores. In general, Ban Tai is not considered the best beach of Phangan in terms of beach holidays, there are plenty of more attractive and photogenic places on the island. Ao Nai Wok Beach

Across the river from the town of Thong Sala (we are now from the southmoving to the west, you remember, right?) there is a small beach-plunge pool Ao Nai Wok. I call it a frogger not because it is overgrown with algae or has a swampy shore, but because of its shallow water and an artificial lagoon, which cause a strong association with a kind of beach, safe paddock for children. The lagoon was formed after the mouth of the river was expanded, adapting it for use by small sea vessels, and the dumps of the soil were piled right there on the coast. The result was an L-shaped sand bar with an island at the end.

Kosa closes a decent stretch of beach fromthe rest of the sea, forming a very calm and shallow backwater, where you can walk the kids. The coastline of Ao Nai Vok is a bastion of fortifications, fairly disfiguring the appearance of the beach. On the one hand, the Thais reliably protected the beach from blurring with concrete and stones, and on the other, I personally did not find it attractive. In general, the beach is more practical than entertaining. It is close to the infrastructure of Thong Saly, here are beautiful sunsets and a few simple resorts on the first line. But cupola and appeal disappoint. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Ao Plai Laem Beach

I recommend going to Play Lam to those wholooking for truly secret, untwisted and beautiful beaches of Phangan. He, of course, not without remarks, but still worthy of attention for its location and features. And Play Lam is located at the foot of the mountain, below the main road of the island and therefore is not visible from it, which is why it constantly remains out of sight of tourists. And thanks to the same foot, the beach is a broken line, in which huge rocks, large rocks, small rocks, mangroves and patches of soft sand, hidden from prying eyes, alternate.

The advantages of Play Lam include comfortableproximity to the infrastructure of Tong Saly, poorly populated and cozy. There are few people here because people do not know about this beach, and for those who know, very little housing has been built on the shore. Because of the mountain, on the slope of which is quite expensive and not so easy to build. So, light sand and azure spillovers are obtained only by the most inquisitive seekers of separation from civilization. In good weather it is incredibly beautiful here, thanks to the light sand, which reflects the sun’s rays under the water and illuminates the sea below. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Ao Plai Laem Beach

Ao Plai Laem Beach

Ao Hin Kong Beach

As in the case of Tong Sala, call Ao Hin Kongthe beach is only possible with a bunch of reservations. It is located on the shore of a fairly large bay, which was chosen by fishermen, and where these comrades are based, as a rule, it does not exist purely. Partly due to the peculiarities of the profession, and to a greater extent to their mentality, fishing villages in Thailand “delight” the eye with deposits of useless gear, household garbage and marine organic matter, which did not go on sale. Together with the fishermen, small carrier companies have settled here that use the left edge of the beach with a pier for their own purposes.

The right edge of Ao Hin Kong is more suitable forlife, so the beach has places that can surprise you. Not everywhere it is clean and well maintained, not all areas are suitable for swimming and often the water is muddy. It is also small and does not boast of infrastructure, in general, I would call it an extreme option on Pangan, like Vok Tum, which is adjacent to Hin Kong on the left. Wok Tum is a shortened and more winding version of Hin Kong, where tourists use some of the little beaches and patches, and the more or less spacious backwaters went to the same fishermen. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Haad Son Beach

Haad Son Beach, which is still fixedthe local name is Secret Beach, which does not need translation - this is living proof that a good secret place can become a good popular place. I envy those pioneering tourists who first came to Haad Son’s shore and kept it secret. Being the only living soul in such a beautiful place is an emotion for life. But globalization and tourism are doing their dirty deed, and you get to visit the crowded, noisy, very young and cheerful Haad Son, as he has become now.

Finding it is no longer difficult (to the beach there is onlyonly two descents), either by the name of the hotel, or by a large number of bikes parked on the road. The bay is hidden by jungles and uneven terrain, and Haad Son Beach itself is very short and the bungalow is now built up along the first line. Nearby there is a cult place - Koh Raham, with a bar and rocks from which lovers from the sea love to jump into the sea - it's safe. Well, right there, under the rocks, you can often meet people with masks for scuba diving, I myself have not seen, but people who are keen on snorkeling say that there is something to see. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Haad Son Beach

Haad Son Beach

Haad Kruad Beach

Haad Kruad beach is a small beach,if you can say so - private, although the privacy of the beach in Thailand is ambiguous thing and is often dictated not by law and law, but by the fact that the resort is built, which is slightly less than completely obstructing the passage to the sea. In the case of Haad Kruat, we have a loyal administration of the only resort on the beach, which also represents its only infrastructure. This part of Phangan is still sparsely populated, and even the access to the beach runs through open and empty spaces, with roads, but without houses.

The beach itself is very short and relatively comfortable. It maintains order, few people and it is mainly used by guests of the adjacent resort. The infrastructure is only one resort and its services. The sand, the bottom and the sea are not the most attractive on Phangan, although I have met beaches and more terrible. The main advantage of Haad Kruat so far remains his solitude, isolation, and it will fit perfectly for a couple of weeks of separation from civilization, if you have a rented bike, to go somewhere, if that. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Haad Kruad Beach

Ao Hin Ngam Beach (Ao Hin Ngam)

Very conditional beach, rather - a place whereto be a beautiful beach, if instead of slippery boulders there were at least some sand and a couple of seedy palm trees. But in essence there is only a convenient descent to the sea - a concrete staircase with railings. And in the sea itself, you will not get here already - dangerous. At high tide, you can still try to swim with a mask over the stones and snork at the beach, but at low tide there is nothing to do except watch, meditate or relax on the road from point A to point B. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Ao Hin Ngam Beach (Ao Hin Ngam)

Ao Hin Ngam Beach (Ao Hin Ngam)

Haad Khom Beach

Haad Khom Beach is also called Coconut Beach and itrefers to small beaches, but with one small clarification - to small and good beaches. It is located on the edge of geography, in fact at the end of the main island road, which runs along the entire western coast of Phangan and ends in the hills in the north. The beach is hidden at the bottom of a fairly steep slope, behind the territory of a small bungalow resort. This resort is the entire infrastructure of Coconut Beach, with the exception of one bar, which is located three minutes north of the city.

Haad Kom is cozy, green, with palm trees and swings, with good sand, not the most convenient entrance to the water and rocks at the edges. Haad Khoma’s minus can be called its turning towards the north, therefore here you will not see either dusk or dawn, but there is always a shadow. Haad Kom is chosen only by knowledgeable people who have either come here before or are familiar with the island from a tip. The place is wonderful, secluded and not crowded. Beach Wai Nam (Haad Wai Nam)

Vainam beach is located in a small secludedbay, and is a hundred-meter strip of sand. The place is very cozy, secluded, which, however, can be said about any beach on the eastern bank of Phangan. Probably beauty, I liked him almost more than anyone. Weinam differs from other colleagues in its small size, small population and lack of popularity on the Internet. This is used by tourists who are not indifferent to silence and tropical peace. Here, local gatherings of strange people gather and communicate, play and listen to music. Basically, these parties flow from neighboring Haad Tian and Haad Yuan during parties at the Guise Bar and Eden Bar. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Beach Wai Nam (Haad Wai Nam)

Haad Thian Beach

Haad Tien - is the average beach in the trinity of hermitson this edge of Phangan: Vai Nam, Tian and Yuan. Haad Tien is known for its Guy’s Bar, which is considered a cult place and one of the most interesting viewpoints in the east. Only the strongest will be able to come here on their own, and only the most generous by sea, so Haad Tien scares off the average tourist, allowing real connoisseurs of the wild lifestyle to feel at home here. The beach is not very beautiful, but calm and uncrowded. A more detailed description of the beach with photos look here.

Haad Thian Beach

Haad Thian Beach

Haad Yuan Beach

If you say about Haad Yuan in three words, then I wouldchose: rocks, sand and sea. Yes, he is exactly like that. Small in size, beautiful, in their personal bay between the huge rocks on which people settled, they built bungalows and cafes, and along the coast built bridges of bamboo. It is difficult to come here by car, to sail by boat is a little expensive, so either the most desperate or the most curious come here. The rest of the beach population is connoisseurs of a secluded recreation format. Bonus to the sea and authenticity - techno parties in Eden and Gaise. Haad Yuan Beach

Ban Kai Beach (Ao Baan Kai)

Ban Kai is one of the “thawing” beaches onsouthwest Phangan. By melting, I mean excessive destructibility of the coast due to sea waves. Such beaches look beautiful in sunny weather, but each storm for them is a blurred centimeters of the coast, with which landowners struggle hard. Therefore, Ban Kai is thoroughly plastered with concrete rings. This beach is usually chosen by people who came not to seal, but to ride and explore the terrain. Approximately with the same goals that they choose Ban Tai, which is a continuation of Ban Kai, well, or vice versa, how convenient it is for anyone to count.

It is in convenient proximity to hypermarkets.Ban Tai and Tong Sala, as well as to the Pangan Party Center - Haad Rin. Nearby are the main roads to the northern and eastern shores of the island. Yes, and houses at Ban Kae is cheaper, although the infrastructure is so-so, well, the beach also leaves much to be desired. Here you are both shallow and rocky bottom, there is just no problem with the shadow at all, and the sunsets from Ban Kai are really beautiful.
