List of the best beaches in Phuket
The first thing you need to know is that only in the west of Phuket and in the south are the cuprade beaches. Yes, there is still a couple in the east, but they are really quite an amateur.
The best beaches for longer stays in my opinion: Nai harn and Bang Tao. Both are calm, there are few hotel tourists, most homes for rent, lack of infrastructure. At Bang Tao, there is even a Tesco supermarket. But when we talk about Nai Harn, it means that you need to live in the Rawai or Chalong area (this is where all the houses are for rent), and Nai Harn himself should ride a bike or a car. At Bang Tao, you can also settle within walking distance from the sea. You can also Kamalu consider - there is a BigC supermarket, there is housing and the sea will be close.
Beach holiday is best suited Caron. Kata and Kata Noi. Listed in decreasing orderpeople. But if we talk about the beaches themselves, then Karon will be prettier, and Kata will be more comfortable. In general, the best of them, in my opinion, is Kata Noi, but there hotels are very expensive and the infrastructure is not enough. In principle, no one bothers to go to Kata Noi to go swimming, or even to walk, if you live on Kata, it is not far there. For an average budget, I would choose a hotel between Karon and Katya. Then it will turn out that all 3 beaches will be close by and within walking distance. Plus, Kata has a Makro supermarket.
I know many people like to relax Surin beach. He is good, I do not argue, but I'm still more for Kata-Karon, somehow they are more pleasant, if we speak not about the coast, but about the area. If you need places with less infrastructure, then consider Knighton and Nai yang. The latter in general, we can say rustic.
Lovers of nightlife and parties direct road to Patong. It not only resembles a small city, but alsohas the most developed infrastructure in the area. Shops, bars, clubs, and a small branch of Pattaya - its Walking Street. Also here are most budget hotels.
The main beaches of Phuket
Nai Yang Beach
Nai Yang is located just south of the airport. The infrastructure is not very developed, there are cafes, hotels, minimart, the market aside. The place is not very popular, there are few people on the shore. The central part is best suited for swimming, there is a rather quick entrance and sun beds on the beach with umbrellas. Casuarinas grow on the shore and create a shadow.
But in the northern and southern parts of the entrance is very long, and at low tide in general not reach the depth. And in the southern part, where the casuarin forest is full of stones and the locals gather seafood there at low tide. In details About Nai Yang with descriptions and photos.
Not very big beach near the airportPhuket It creates the impression of a resort location. There are a lot of people on the shore, near a cafe in Russian, laudatory reviews of guests. Along the beach there is a road, behind which hotels are located. The building here is dense.
The beach itself is beautiful, pleasant. The sand is shallow, the water is clean, the coastal strip is wide. A casuarin forest belt separates from the road. Lounge chairs arranged in several rows. In details about Knighton with descriptions and photos.
The next piece of the beach, after you go up the hill, belongs Andaman White Beach Resort. I was not allowed to go there, they say, private property.
Bang Tao Beach
Bang Tao is a long beach, about 5 kilometers. As a rule, they live in its southern part, because in the north there are very few hotels, houses for rent, cafes and shops. There is rather a wasteland and a few cafes on the beach. In general, Bang Tao can be described as a calm place. Very detailed About Bang Tao with descriptions and photos, and below briefly.
North Bang Tao. There are very few people on the beach, almost no one can say at all. There may be big waves that are not suitable for small children. Depth is growing pretty quickly. The water is clean and the sand is medium in size. The beach is wide and separated from the road by a casuarin grove and fence. The shadow of the trees is only in the morning. Entrances to the beach there is only where the cafes. Large parking near the hotel Nikki Beach.
Mid Bang Tao. Solid resorts around the lakes, pompous and expensive place. The main area is occupied by Laguna Beach Resort. The road runs straight along the beach and there are cafes in a row between it and the beach. And here it ends somewhere, a dead end. And to get to the southern part of Bang Tao, you need to go back a little (to the north), go around Laguna. There is parking near Moevenpick Resort, which is free for everyone at the time of shooting. Sand is fine. There are more people here than in the northern part, but it’s still quite normal. But from the middle to the south there are much more people. The shadow is likely to be extracted here with the help of umbrellas.
South Bang Tao. Dense and tight buildings, many hotels, shops, cafes, houses for the long term. There is a normal Tesco. The main road passes here and a half miles from the beach and goes to Surin Beach. The rest of the tracks are narrow, the car is cramped, it is better to ride a bike. The main entrance to the beach near Bangtao Beach Resort, although through other resorts you can go too. People on the beach decently, full of sun beds. The depth does not increase quickly, but it does not have to go too far. Shadow can be found under casuarinas (in the morning) and under umbrellas.
Surin seemed to me a cramped beach, where tooa lot of people and movement. Around the Russian language is heard and a lot of Russian inscriptions. Such an ordinary resort location. Most of the beach is covered with sun beds. The sand is shallow, the depth increases average. There may be problems with natural shadow. Parking by car is better on the football field, it is slightly away from the main entrance, where the temple stands (there is rarely a place there). In details about Surine with description and photos.
Next to Surin is Pansy Beach. I could not get to him, he rested against the resort and the barrier, but there he could be reached on foot, they let him without problems.
Kamala is a long beach and infrastructure depends onthe part where you stay, in this regard, it looks like Bang Tao. And it also gives the impression of a calm and “rustic” beach, because there is no night resort life here. More Kamala in detail with photos and descriptions, and read briefly below.
North of Kamala. From Surin you can get here through the pass, the road goes along the coast. In this part of the beach there is little housing and a lot of empty spaces. Between the road and the beach, there is some kind of fence enclosed by a fence, inside it there are only trees and wastelands. All hotels are located across the road from the coast. There are plenty of people on the shore, but not to say that a lot. The sand is very shallow near the water, and closer to the trees are larger. The depth increases rapidly, which is convenient for adults. The shadow of casuarinas is only in places and in the morning.
The middle of Kamala. The road goes from the coast towards the land. There are many more people in this part of the region. Dense building starts from here and goes to South Kamala. There is a mini Tesco, a small BigSi, the entire infrastructure is located from the middle to the south. The beach is the same as in the north, only the depth is growing much more slowly. Despite the hotels and the "city" I liked the atmosphere, not very direct tourist.
South Kamala. In the south, the road again goes along the beach, although not the main one (it leaves for Patong), but a minor one. The beach goes straight along this road, there are almost no people, there is natural garbage on the sand. In the south and south-middle of a long entrance, you have to walk 50 meters by water.
Patong Beach is the most famous beach on the island. Some call it a branch of Pattaya, because there is almost everything that is there in terms of nightlife. Actually, hang out here and go. As well as on tour most of the packers get here. People here are full, both on the shore and in the city. Yes, this is a real city with traffic jams, busy traffic, and shopping centers.
From Kamala you can get here through a longpass, and from the side of Karon the way is much closer. There is a road along the beach itself, it is one-way, consider this when moving. Between the road and the shore are trees, sellers of all sorts of things, trees. You can get to the beach at any point. The beach is crowded, many lounges all over. The water is dirty, massage services everywhere, jet skis. But on the southernmost part of the berth there is almost no one, neither people nor sun beds. I do not know why, most likely, because there the boats are parked. More about Patong with a description and photo.
You can get to Karon through a small pass fromPatong, and on the south side of Kata Beach, which smoothly flows into Karon. Infrastructure and hotels are all over, did not notice much of a difference. The road goes almost everywhere along the coast, and there is only sand and trees between it and the coastline, that is, you can enter the beach at any point. The beach is popular, but not as lively as Patong, although there are not much less people on the shore. In the area of Karon Park there is a pond and some empty spaces.
A lot of people. The sand is rather fine. At low tide, the water does not go too far, but the entrance is always long. More about Carone with photos and descriptions.
Kata Beach is a civil beach, it is immediately visible bybuildings. There are many people, like on Karon. Narrow roads, dense buildings. Along the beach there is a long resort behind the fence. Between him and the beach is the road. You can park on it without any problems throughout. Kata flows into Kathu Noah. The entrance is long, at low tide it is very noticeable. Sand is fine. The beach itself is less beautiful than Karon, but some consider it more comfortable. Personally, I prefer to book a hotel between Katya and Karon, a very convenient place. More details about Kate with photos and descriptions.
Kata Noi Beach
Kata Noi can be accessed from Kata Beach over the hill. It is small, but steep, you are not on foot. Buildings are even more civil than on Kate. The beach is separated from the road by hotels, you can only go through 2 entrances: at the beginning still on the hill and almost at the end of the beach. And parking by car is also not quite easy, there is no parking (there is a bike), and the road is narrow. The beach is quite small. It is not enough people, it is a lot of plank beds. The sand is medium in size. There may be waves. In details About Kate Noah with photo and description.
Nai Harn Beach
In my opinion one of the best beach on the island. The road along it does not pass, there is a casuarin grove with a shadow nearby, we visit local ones. There are few hotels nearby, only expensive ones. There is almost no infrastructure either, so living here is not very convenient, and there is no place if we are talking about long-term accommodation. It’s good to ride a bike here, living on Rawai, literally 10 minutes to go. There is a big pond and a temple near the beach. No crowding, the place is not too resort, although there are enough people. The sand is medium in size, the entrance is fast, you can even swim at low tide, just go a little further away. There may be high waves, and then it is forbidden to swim. More Nai Harn detail with photos and description.
Not the main beaches of Phuket
Beaches Mai Kao and Sai Kao (Mai Khao Beach and Sai Kaew)
Two beaches in the very north of Phuket next toby the airport. Mai Kao is partially located on the territory of the national park. In some places of the beach there are cafes, where locals come on weekends. Both beaches are deserted, with casuarin trees and a very sharp entrance, the depth already delays. They say that swimming here can be dangerous, you have to be careful. Little more about Mai Kao beach.
On the road from Knighton towards Bang Tao, there is noBanana Beach is very noticeable and not very popular. From the road down to it leads a steep path between the trees. The beach itself is quite small, literally 100 meters, or even less. People a little, but not enough. There is a cafe. Car or bike should be left on the road, there is a little space for parking. In details o Banana Beach with descriptions and photos.
Laem Sing Beach
Laem Sing is a very small beach. It is perfectly visible from the viewpoint by the road. There is no access to the beach. You need to throw vehicles up on the road and go down the mountain path. Thais have made a paid entrance to the beach and paid parking. Moreover, there is very little space for this, and in the season at best, you will only find a bike where to stick. But, if not too lazy to go a hundred meters, then from Laem Sing in the direction of Kamala there will be a couple of places along the road (one of them is near the garbage dump), where you can even put a car. Or, alternatively, park at the viewpoint.
On the crowded beach is average. Its area is small, so it depends on the influx of tourists. Depth increases with average speed. Large blocks protrude from the water, at low tide they are completely exposed. More in detail about Laem Sing with photos and description.
Kamala Beach near Aquamarine Resort
A small piece of beach in Kamala Bay nearHotel Aquamarine Resort & Villa. This is the southernmost part of Kamala. Most likely, you should not go here, only if you sit in a cafe on the beach, she is alone there. Solid resorts, pretty cool. Quiet, calm, no people. The sand is coarse with shells, there are stones in the water. The shore is narrow, really just a few meters in total, but it's at high tide. The depth increases relatively long. And at low tide the water goes away, and swimming here will be problematic. More about this Kamala segment.
On Naklai Beach did not hit, just photographed from above. There, everything is fenced off at Nakalay Beach Resort, near it there is an inscription on the shield “Do not enter”. From above, I did not see any of the people on the shore. Read more about Nakalay Beach.
Kalim Beach is located in the north of Patong and it is literally a small piece of sand along the road. There were few people in my visit. The depth increases rapidly, there may be waves. In details about Kalime with photo and description.
North of Kalim is a rocky shore, where at low tide the locals gather something all the time, and in general they have some kind of tusovka there. And south of Kalima almost immediately begins Patong Beach.
Tri Trang Beach
If you go from Patong to the south is not on the main road(she goes to Karon), and along the coast, then through the hill we get to the beach Tritrang. It is located near the Tri Trang Resort of the same name, where you can also get on the coast, near the resort the path goes down sharply. I was scared to go. The sand is plain, like everywhere else. People a little, quiet and calm. The beach is small in length. The depth does not increase quickly, and the tide is unprofitable and stones. Read more about Tritrang with photos.
Smooth coastline length of about 500meters, consisting of pure white and fine sand, on the one hand drowning in the real jungle. A small paradise of beaches, once a little known, but now quite popular and crowded, despite the isolation and some work accessibility. The beach is located to the south of the noisy Patong beach, behind a forested cape. More about Freedom Beach with photos and descriptions.
Beach Hotel Le Meridien (Le Meridiun Phuket Beach Resort)
A small beach hotel Le Meridien, which with twothe sides are surrounded by green hills covered with tropical vegetation. The sand on the beach is white, fine and clean. Sunset in the sea flat and comfortable. The water is also clear, azure color. You can get to the beach from Patong and from Karon in about 10 minutes drive. Since the hotel stands alone and in a rather secluded place, the guests of the hotel mostly bathe on the beach. More information about the beach of the hotel Le Meridien, with photos.
Ao Sane Beach
Very small beach, a few tens of metersin length. To get to it, you need to go from Nai Harn to the right through the hotel. Dead end road. The beach itself has large stones and medium-sized sand. People are usually not many, and divers come here. Detailed description of the beach Ao Sane.
Very small beach, literally a few tens of meters. He is often photographed from above. There is a rental kayak, cafes. The entrance is relatively long, stones in the water. More about Yanuy beach with photos and descriptions.
On the beach itself, hardly anyone bathes. This is a “technical” beach where fishermen’s boats park. It's nice to sit on the waterfront in one of the many cafes, or take a walk along the pier. Also in the area are many houses for rent, where longsters live. We ourselves lived here once. The place is still good because it’s 10 minutes from Nai Harn. More Detailed about Rawai Beach with photos and description.
About the same as Ravai. There are parked boats, boats, you can not swim. And in the same way it is convenient to live here, because there is a lot of housing and infrastructure, too. Tesco is nearby, and even to Phuket Town with its shopping centers is also very close.
Phuket Beaches Map
P.S. The review lacks some shallow or private beaches. Lists: the beach of the hotel Trisara Resort, the beach at the hotel Layan Beach Resort, Pansea beach, Hua Beach, Paradise beach, beach hotel Merlin Beach Resort, Siam Beach, Nui Beach, Laem Ka Beach, Ao Yon Beach, Cape Panwa. Maybe I will take a photo of them later, but for now I just marked them on the map.
P.P.S. If you need a hotel in Phuket, then I have personally composed selection of hotels. In general, the choice of housing in Phuket presented on any budget, it remains only to choose.
Life hacking 1 - how to buy a good insurance
Choosing insurance is now unrealistically difficult, so to help all travelers, I compile a rating. To do this, I constantly monitor forums, study insurance contracts and use insurance by myself.

First, choose a hotel on Booking. They have a good offer base, but the prices are NOT the best! The same hotel can often be found 20% cheaper in other systems through the RoomGuru service.
