Profitable bank cards for travel - my selection

He promised to tell you about specific cards fortravel, spread. I have long wanted to make this selection, because immediately after the last wintering I redid all my cards, and this is probably not the end, as the tariffs change, some cards stop issuing, somewhere the service is not pleasant in fact. I just say right away that this is not a complete list, naturally, there are many more cards. Here only those that I once had, are now, or are planning to be in the future.

In general, it is a kind of endless process. If you constantly monitor various banking offers, search advantageous card use schemes, both for trips abroad and for home, to look for interesting contributions, cashback cards, good credit cards, then it claims to be a hobby.

Let's see what commissions can be,let's sum up and compare them. The courses of the Mastercard and Visa payment systems are taken as fixed, because they are the same for all cards and do not depend on which Russian bank issued the card. Conversion rates of Russian banks are usually tied to the Central Bank (Central Bank), so that it is more convenient to count the losses. There may be inaccuracies, because tariffs may change, consider this.

To understand how card conversions happen, read - How to convert tugriks into rubles. And if you really do not know anything about the cards, then start with the article - Which bank card is better to getthere are the basics.

In general, while the dollar / euro is unstable, you canpurchased in advance by currency, put on currency cards and then spend / withdraw. Or wait for a fall in the exchange rate, and it is precisely these days that you buy foreign currency even while you are already abroad, for example, by converting it in an Internet bank.

Tinkoff, credit / debit AllAirlines

This is my main card now. Read my detailed overview with pros and cons, told the whole truth.

AllAirlines card (as a gift 1000 rub)>

  • Converting TUGRIKI => USD is at the rate of Mastercard or Visa. Cross-border payment fee: 0%
  • Loss on conversion USD => RUB: domestic bank rate = Central Bank + 2%.

AllAirlines credit cards are my favoriteI use it now all the time. Do not like credit cards, make the same debit AllAirlines (for the link gift 500 rubles). The total loss of 0% when paying (at first due to the rate of the Central Bank + 2% we go to minus 2%, but they are compensated by cashback 2%). Cashback is credited with miles (1 mile = 1 rub), for all purchases 2%, for hotels and car reservations 10% is returned, and for purchasing an air ticket 5%. Annual maintenance of 1890 rubles or free of charge when spending from 50 thousand rubles per month. Interest-free period of 55 days, free travel insurance. Benefit interrupts annual maintenance many times.

Tinkoff Ruble Black

The total loss when withdrawing 2% or 1% atpayment of purchases (cashback compensates for all by 1%). Cashback is charged in cash. The balance on the card is charged 6% per annum (there are some restrictions, so it’s easier to keep on the savings account at 5%, but without restrictions), and every quarter there are categories for which 5% cashback, for example, fuel, pharmacies, transport, traffic police fines. The annual service is free of charge on condition that it is found from 30 thousand rubles on the card (or 50 thousand rubles on the deposit). You can link an account in any currency to one card and change it in a couple of clicks.

Corn, ruble Mastercard World

UPDATE. Since the summer of 2016 Corn has passed its position. Reduced the percentage of the balance, removed the ability to properly spend points and so on. I stopped using the card, now I have a spare one, because it is free. Read all the details in my post. Corn Map Review.

  • Commission for withdrawal at an ATM: 0%, if you connect the service "interest on the balance" and withdraw at least 5000 rubles at a time and no more than 50,000 rubles per month, otherwise the commission is 1%. Cashback 1.5% for purchases.

Beeline, ruble Mastercard

  • Converting TUGRIKI => USD is at the rate of Mastercard. Cross-border payment fee: 0%
  • Losses on USD conversion => RUB: bank rate = Central Bank, that is 0%.

Total losses on withdrawal and payment of 0%, and forCashback account is leaving at plus 1%. The Beeline card is very similar to Kukuruza by the principle (also not a bank card) and the tariffs are very similar, the exchange rate is also Central Bank. But more suitable for subscribers of Beeline, whom I am not. Cashback is calculated by bonuses that can be spent on Beeline communications. By selected categories of cashback 5%. Annual maintenance is free. There is interest on the balance of 6%, if the card is daily at least 3,000 rubles, or 3,000 rubles per month are spent. Otherwise, the service costs 99 rubles per month.

Sberbank, ruble Mastercard

Classic cards from Sberbank

  • Commission for withdrawal at an ATM of a third-party bank: 1%. There is a cashback 0.5% from Thank you.
  • Converting TUGRIKI => USD is at the rate of Mastercard. Cross-border payment fee: 0%
  • Loss on the conversion of USD => RUB: domestic rate of the bank) = approximately Central Bank + 2%, it changes must be clarified in fact.

The total loss when withdrawing 3% or 1.5% upon payment. Annual maintenance 750 rubles the first year, then 450 rubles. There is a cashback in the form of the “Thank you” program, for purchases of 0.5%, for shares up to 30%. If you have a Visa card (I would not recommend doing it), then add another 2% loss (for premium cards 0.75-1%) for the cross-border to all transactions.

I was also asked about Momentum cards, they havein the same way passes conversion. Of the benefits - free annual maintenance. Of the minuses - the limits on operations at ATMs per month (50,000 rubles or $ 1,600 or € 1,200), and to pay for goods per day (€ 100,000 or $ 3,500 or € 2,500). Although the latter is not at all critical. Well, sometimes you need a name card.

Alfabank, ruble Visa or Mastercard

Alpha Service Packages

  • Commission for withdrawal at an ATM of a third-party bank: 1%.
  • Converting TUGRIKI => USD is at the rate of Mastercard or Visa. Cross-border payment fee: 2.5% (they otherwise call it, they say, there is no commission for transgranes).
  • Loss on USD conversion => RUB not known. Since either they put their 2.5% in the course, about which I wrote in the previous paragraph, or in this conversion, it is not clear. But there will always be about 2.5% in total. Here is the internal rate of the bank.

The total loss when withdrawing 3.5% or 2.5% upon payment. In a regular map, annual maintenance is free, but you must always include one of the covenants. The cheapest OPTIMUM with a commission is 2,189 rubles per year or 199 rubles / month (optional), which can be 0 rubles if one of the conditions is met (accounts are between 100 thousand rubles or 20 thousand / month per month). There is also a good cashback card with a refund of 10% for a gas station, 5% for a cafe, and 1% for other purchases. She has an annual maintenance fee of 1990 rubles / year, plus the cost of the Optimum package.

Other cards

There are now a large number on the market.maps, and to cover all of them, I did not set a task. Cashback debit cards are quite good with AK Bars (Generation), CIAB (Keshbek online), credit cards at Otkrytie (Travel), Binbank, Alpha (Travel Premium), and so on. There are many different.

Everyone has different tasks and different possibilities. Someone doesn’t want to have 20 cards at all and it’s easier for them to use one, and someone, on the contrary, almost makes a card for each category of purchases. For example, if you travel a lot by car (or go on a trip to Europe on it), then for this you can make yourself a special separate card for paying for fuel with some 10% cashback.

I looked through the cards for a long time and chose for myselfseveral, and part of them from Tinkoff. While I am pleased with them. In my opinion, they basically have enough advantages: a good cashback by category, interest on the balance on the card, a credit card is easy to get, the interbank is free. And also, what I have been using lately - online currency exchange at a good rate, there is such a life hack: buy dollars each time before buying (or immediately after) and pay them abroad, not rubles with a ruble card, then there are no conversion losses ( Central Bank + 2%).

Dollar and euro cards

Before choosing a currency card, read my post, which is better to choose a currency or ruble card.

In a normal bank when removing from the card anyTugriks (baht, dinars, crowns), they will be converted into dollars at the rate of the Master / Visa payment system and 1: 1 deducted from your dollar card, there will be no additional fees for cross-border payments. Thus, in the presence of a currency card, we move away from the second conversion of USD => RUB at the internal rate of the Russian bank, which is relevant if it is very different from the Central Bank. It is these cards that we mainly consider here.

If you already have any cards, then you needcall your bank and clarify in what currency they work with the payment system, and how exactly the conversions take place, according to which scheme. It is important at what rate the conversion will go, because the best course is the payment system (MPS), and not the bank’s internal rate. Or, if, for example, Tugriks are suddenly converted by the payment system into euros, then you need an euro card, not a dollar one. Be prepared that the call center will respond to complete nonsense, and find out better on the forum banks. Ru, there are really knowledgeable people who constantly check cards in real life and calculate commissions, such a hobby. It is also important to find out if there is a cross-border fee when the payment currency differs from the account currency (we pay with a dollar card in Serbia / Bulgaria / Czech Republic / Thailand in local currency).

Tinkoff

I now have 2 Tinkoff cards (just in case2) and to any of them I can link a ruble, dollar or euro account. This should be used in the following way: in countries where the euro is in circulation, it is necessary to use the euro card, and in countries where Tugriks (even if it is territorially Europe), dollar. There is no commission for transgranes. Cash withdrawal from 100 euro in any ATM without a fee. Annual maintenance of currency accounts 0. Cashback 1% for all transactions.

Black card>

Dollar card: use only where DOLLARs are in progress (write-off 1 to 1) or TUGRIKS (1 Tugrika conversion => USD at the rate of IPU). In the eurozone is not necessary (1 EUR conversion => USD at the rate of the bank).

Euro card: use only in countries where EURO is in circulation (write-off 1 to 1). In tugrikov countries it is not necessary (2 conversions Tugrika => USD => EUR, the first conversion at the rate of the IPU, and the second at the rate of the bank).

Sberbank

Sberbank when withdrawing local tugriks from an ATMor when paying for the purchase in the store, it will take as much as 0.75-2% of the cross-border on Visa cards (on Mastercard will not), depending on the degree of premium card. Ordinary cards Classic - 2%. Here is a link to their tariffs (36 pages). Therefore, if you make a Sberbank card, you need to be guided by the following rules: in the euro zone, pay euro, in the dollar zone, dollar, in third currencies, the dollar card Mastercard, generally as Tinkoff. All operations, except the Euro zone, will go through USD. Annual service for the first year 30 ye, then 20 ye / year. Commission for withdrawal at an ATM 1%.

Homecredit

Homecredit has a binding to the settlement currency, independing on the payment system. For the Visa, these are dollars, for the MasterCard it is the euro, therefore, only the Dollar Visa and the Euro Mastercard should be used. There is no commission for transgranes. But there is a commission of $ 3 for each withdrawal of cash, a year can decently drop in total.

Dollar Visa: use only in countries where DOLLARs are in circulation (write-off 1 to 1) or TUGRIKS (1 Tugrika conversion => USD at the rate of IPU). In the eurozone it is possible, but not worth it (1 EUR conversion => USD at the rate of the IPU).

Euro Master: use only in countries where EURO is in circulation (write-off 1 to 1) and TUGRIKI (1 Tugrika conversion => EUR at the rate of IPU).

VTB 24

You can also consider they have a dollar card, since all transactions go through dollars and if you pay with an euro card not in euros, you get a similar situation, as in other banks. Service under the classical package of 90 rubles / month (free of charge when spending from 20,000 rubles / $ 300 per month), 1% for withdrawals at an ATM.

Dollar card: use only in countries where DOLLARs are in circulation (write-off 1 to 1) or TUGRIKS (1 Tugrika conversion => USD at the rate of IPU). In the eurozone it is possible, but not worth it (1 EUR conversion => USD at the rate of the IPU).

Euro card: use only in countries where EURO is in circulation (write-off 1 to 1). In tugrikov countries it is not necessary (2 conversions Tugrika => USD => EUR, the first conversion at the rate of the IPU, and the second at the rate of the bank).

Roketbank

Rocketbank has a good dollar card. If there is a double conversion from the ruble exchange rate at a bank rate that does not understand how it jumps, then everything is clear with the dollar, like the others - without commissions. It's about the MasterCard, according to Vize, an additional commission of 2%. But as far as I know, they do not issue Visas yet. Cashback 1% for all transactions. 5 free withdrawals per month at ATMs of the world, then 1.5%. But one withdrawal operation at an ATM cannot be more than 10,000 rubles, which is not at all suitable for withdrawals at ATMs in Thailand, which charge a commission of 200 baht for withdrawal. Therefore, in Tay from Rocket it is better to shoot in those banks' cash offices where they do not charge a fee (but lately many cash registers are taking).

Dollar card: use only where DOLLARs are in progress (write-off 1 to 1) or TUGRIKS (1 Tugrika conversion => USD at the rate of IPU). In the eurozone is not necessary (1 EUR conversion => USD at the rate of the bank).

Alpha, Raiffeisen and Citibank

Alpha currency cards are only suitable whenyou are in a euro country (euro card is used) or in a dollar country (dollar card). Otherwise, Alpha casts a conversion fee of about 2.5% and for currency cards, too, not only for ruble cards.

Raiffeisen covers a 1.65% cross border. Citibank is also not advised, courses are bad.

What cards did I choose (my list)

I do not pretend to the truth of choice, butIt is for me and for my needs, these cards are great. You can use my recommendations, or you can analyze other options and choose something of your own. Be sure to write in the comments that you choose in the end.

  • Tinkoff AllAirlines credit card - forshopping in Russia and abroad, well, of course, for hotels / tickets, so there will already be 3-10% cashback. Now this is my main card, all spending goes on it. It is convenient for me to get into the credit limit, while my own money lies on the deposit under interest. I quickly recaptured the annual service by compensating for miles. Yes, and I spend in any case more than 50k per month.
  • AllAirlines card (as a gift 1000 rub)>

  • Debit Tinkoff Black with a ruble account is neededI, first of all, for the free ruble interbank, the distribution of funds on the rest of the cards, and cash withdrawal at ATMs in Russia. I also use separate savings accounts at 5%, on which you can deposit or withdraw money at any time without any restrictions, since when you find money on the card, the interest on the balance is charged 6% is charged only when there is a cost of 3000 rubles / Month, and safer not on the card to keep the full amount. For selected categories (vary quarterly), you can get not a standard cashback of 1%, but 5%. You can keep from 30,000 rubles on the card for free maintenance (or a deposit of 50 thousand rubles), or not to hold anything.
  • Debit Tinkoff Black tied to herdollar / euro account. This can be either a separate card or the same ruble one, just a ruble account is untied and a currency account is attached. Dollar for tugrikovyh countries, Euro for the euro area. I use abroad, or currency, or Alliance. For currency cards, it is necessary to bribe a currency, either periodically at a good exchange rate, or immediately before purchase. Since the currency exchange rate within the Internet bank Tinkoff is close to the exchange rate (during working hours in Moscow), then this is more profitable than Corn with its CB rate. One of the advantages of cashback is 1% (nobody has it on currency cards), currency conversion in the Internet bank at the Exchange rate is +/- 0.5%, which is pretty good. Free service. Abroad, I withdraw cash from ATMs with currency cards.
  • Corn I use it as a backup card just in case. For example, you can withdraw cash abroad, pay for goods in foreign currency at the rate of the Central Bank, if other cards have run out of limits or have been lost. Due to the free service and free sms pocket, it does not pull, you can only use occasionally. After receiving the card, put the mobile application and enter the promotional code FRASFM38V, then you will be given 300 rubles.
  • Credit Tinkoff Drive (1000 rubles per linkcard). Made to pay for gasoline with a cashback of 10%, payment for auto services with cashback of 5%. In fact, only for gasoline I need it, in Russia and abroad. I figured that the annual maintenance of 990 rubles will be withdrawn fairly quickly and the card will work in profit. I'll try a year, and then maybe replace it with another card to pay for fuel.
  • In addition, there is a Sberbank card. Sber is convenient because he has everything, even older people. You can simply say the number of the Sberbank card (or mobile phone) and the other person will not have any issues with the translation. I use only in these cases. And also occasionally for cash withdrawal, Sberbank has a good limit in ATMs with Mastercard Standart cards (150 thousand rubles / day), and Sberbank ATMs are on every corner. I made another Maestro card with free service and a withdrawal limit at an ATM of 50 thousand rubles, I can only leave it.
  • There are other cards, but some did not use, somehow stopped. For example, Avant-garde cards have become less profitable (occasionally I use only an account and an interbank 10 rubles each), the Tinkoff Platinum credit card didn’t go. There is a map of Mnogo.ru and Epayments, which is great for the withdrawal of Webmoney and in general for freelancers, but since I have all the white incomes, it has not been useful to me. There are Alfabank cards, but they are still without use (I think to make them Alpha Travel Premium). Maybe I’ll do a Travel Discovery or Rocketbank card somehow.

P.S. The post is periodically updated (the update date at the beginning of the post), if the conditions on the cards change, or I make others myself. I would be glad if you tell about other tasty maps, both for traveling abroad and for use at home.
