How to get from Bangkok to Koh Chang - gathered in one article all the options

After another trip according to tradition, I write about transport, in this case, how to get from Bangkok to Koh Chang, and here's another article, how to get from Koh Chang to Bangkok. In fact, a lot of ways, and partlythey duplicate each other, so that sometimes you don’t even know how best to go. I'll try to talk about all the options that I know. By the way, in the topic of the article it makes sense to know about Bangkok Metro and Bus Stations.

Transportation to Koh Chang is different: buses, minibars (they are also called minivans), transfers, taxi, plane. First of all, you need to understand that Koh Chang is an island, which means that any kind of movement includes a ferry (even a plane, since the airport is located on the mainland). Also note that the mini-bus can just take you to the pier, and maybe with you go to the island and take it to the desired beach. In the latter case, this is called a transfer from the hotel to the hotel and the ferry ticket will already be included in the cost of the trip. The distance between Bangkok and Chang is about 300 km, keep in mind that it’s half a day to go there.

Bus, minibass, transfers from Bangkok to Koh Chang

There are at least 5 points from where transport goes to Koh Chang from Bangkok:

  • East bus station Ekkamai
  • North bus station MoChit
  • Suvarnabhumi Airport
  • Khao San Road
  • Victory Monument Metro Station

Posted in "the side of Koh Chang" because manybuses go to the city of Trat (the capital of the province of Trat, which includes Koh Chang Island), and then from the Tratovsky bus station you will need to transfer to a songteo (local pickup bus) to the pier on Chang. Sometimes buses stop on the highway before reaching Trat and all travelers are put in a specially fitted pick-up truck and sent to the pier. In any case, the city of Trat is not very far from the pier on Chang, and to get from it is already quite simple and not long.

How to buy a ticket via the Internet

There is a site 12Go.asia, where you can buy bus / train tickets online. Now it is the only service of this kind. It covers many destinations in Thailand, including Koh Chang, (there are combined tickets, bus, minibus, ferry).

Go back to Bangkok go with the same frequency. The advantage is that this bus station is a 5-minute walk from the metro station of the same name, and the metro is not far from the city center. Therefore, if suddenly there is an ambush everywhere, there are no tickets, or you don’t want to wait, then immediately blow on Ekkamai, you will leave anyway.

The ticket for the bus to Trat about 250baht The price includes a bottle of water and snacks. Travel time is about 5-6 hours. The bus is comfortable, air-conditioned, stops along the way, arrives at the Trat Bus Terminal or goes straight to the pier.

From bus station Mo chit to Trat

From the bus station Mo Chit Bus Terminal (heNorthern Bus Terminal, Northern Bus Station) goes to Trat bus, at least 3 times a day. I saw the schedule of only one bus company (Transport Government Bus 999), but they say there are other companies, and in total there are more than three flights. This option is most convenient for those who flew in Don Muang Airport, because it is very close to Mochita, or who has just arrived from the north of Thailand, for example, from Chiang Mai. After all, after the overnight bus, I somehow left Chiang Mai.

The cost of a bus ticket to Trat is about 270 baht. The price includes a bottle of water and snacks. Travel time is about 5-6 hours. The bus is comfortable, air-conditioned, arrives at the Trat Bus Terminal.

From Suvarnabhumi Airport

Of airport Suvarnabumi bus number 392 goes straight to the island (from the bustransplanted to the bus after the ferry). Truth walks only in high season. The ticket price is 400 baht, including ferry (total travel time is about 6-8 hours with the ferry), or 240 baht if you go to Trat Departure time is 7.30 am. Here is the site of this company.

Since the bus runs only once a day, leaving it can be quite difficult. But this company also has mini-bass, reaching as far as Lonely Beach (a good beach on the island). The ticket counter is located on the 1st floor of the airport (it’s the second one, since there is also the ground floor B) with exit number 8. Minibass costs 600 baht per person one way, or 800 baht in both. Runs three times a day (departure time - arrival time):
7.50 - 14.00
11.00 - 16.00
14.00 - the last ferry

There is also a bus station near the airport, from where you can try to leave. At this station go free shuttle bass.

Transfers from Khaosan Road Tourist Area

If you are staying for a few days in Bangkok and staying in the area Khao San Roadthen right there in numerous travel agencies(or at the reception of your hotel) you can buy a shuttle service to Koh Chang by minibus, they are sometimes called tours. The transfer can be as simple as the pier, including a ferry ticket, but you can get to the beach yourself, or to the hotel or the beach. Price will vary slightly. You can walk around in different offices and ask around. You will start from Khao San Road, which is convenient, since you do not need to go anywhere.

The cost of transfer Bangkok - Koh Chang fluctuates, but usually it is about 400-900 baht per person, depending on whether they take you to the beach or only to the pier. It is better to buy one day before departure, as there are plenty of travelers on Khaosan, and many of them leave for Chang in this way. The journey takes 5-6 hours (to the pier).

From Victory Monument Metro Station

From October 2016 no longer go from here.minivans in other cities in Thailand. The military junta struggled with traffic jams on the square, which arose due to the activities of 4,000 minibuses, which in fact created an illegal bus station in the middle of the city. Minivans were distributed between the three main bass terminals of Bangkok and free shuttles from Victory Monument now run to these three bus terminals. If you are closer to the monument than to the stations - come here. Shuttles run from 4:30 am and until 20:30 every 20 minutes.

From the bus station in Trat to the pier on Koh Chang

Buses from Bangkok bus terminals come toTrat Bus Terminal, where you transfer to the Songteo (local pick-up minibus) and you are taken to the pier. If you need a specific pier (there are two of them), then call its name to the driver in advance. Although, if you just need to go to Chang island, then the pier does not matter, and you can say just Ferry to Koh Chang (ferry to Chang). The cost of the songteo is 50-100 baht, travel time is 30 minutes.

I have not figured out until the end, but some buses, the following from Bangkok to Trat now stop on the highway, before reaching Trat, and land those who go to the island of Chang, I have just driven. They are still at the bus station when boarding asking where you are going to Trat or Chang to put things in the luggage compartment of the bus in a certain order. Coming out of the bus, immediately picks up a minibus and drives to the pier Koh Chang Ferry Pier. So it turns out faster than through tratovsky bus station. Songteo costs 130 baht, including a ferry ticket.

Individual transportation

Internet transfer

Anyone who wants a minimum of gestures canpre-order online transfer to Kiwitaxi (ferry included). You will be met in the arrival hall, you will take luggage, put you in a car and take you to the right place. The method is good because there are no problems at all, but it costs like an ordinary taxi that you will be looking for at the airport. I recommend to those who want to save time and nerves!

It costs about 4000-6000 baht per car. Naturally, for 6000 baht there will already be a minibus for 7 people. Travel time is about 5 hours to the pier, and then by ferry. Although you can take a transfer immediately to the hotel in Koh Chang. Transfer can be from the airport, from the hotel in Bangkok, and in principle from any place in the city.

Transfer to Koh Chang>

I already went to the transfer from this company and was completely pleased with it. Met with a sign, put in a car and taken to the hotel. Here is my review of kiwitaxi.

Taxi to Koh Chang

There is a taxi somewhere around 3500-5000 baht per car,and on it you can go straight away from the airport, there are racks where you can order. A big car like minibass will be more expensive. You can also go out and try to catch a taxi, to bargain, but not every taxi driver is lucky, still far away.

Also in this section include privatetransfers that are carried out by small companies (or unofficially private traders). The cost depends on what kind of car you will be served. In principle, if you take a car for 5-10 people, then the cost will differ little from public transport, and comfort is higher. It is necessary to search for offices in Google or already in place.

Car rental

Most likely this option can be usefulactive travelers who are going to travel around the neighborhood, and not to lay a seal on Koh Chang. Although even just with the family it is much more convenient to drive in your car, and not in mini-buses. Imho ride on Tay on cars is a pleasure, good roads, everywhere refueling with cafes and 7/11. Very convenient, you arrive and immediately at the airport you take the car. All the nuances car rental in Tae, I have already expounded in detail.

You need to take the car through Economybookings, thisgood broker. He will issue on his website offers from all international distributors in the country. The price will be lower than directly, plus you can give full insurance for free.

Discounted car rental>

I usually take in Hertz, since if you take from themcar for a period of 5 days, then it can be returned elsewhere for free (other companies charge a commission for this). And just on this site it is convenient to compare what comes out cheaper, pay this commission, or not pay, since the price per day is different for all companies.

Plane to Koh Chang from Bangkok

This is one of the most expensive ways, but also the mostquick-convenient There is an airport in the province of Trat, and only one airline, Bangkok Air, flies to it. The price of the air ticket is 3200 and 3800 baht, the journey takes 1 hour. You can check the schedule on their website and book tickets there. Only three flights a day - 8:40, 10:30, 17:05. At one time, AirAsia was still flying at reasonable prices, but as of this writing, they have no such direction.

Next at the airport, catch a taxi, pickup songteo(minibus) or mini-bus, and drive to the pier. The cost of a pickup to the pier is 100 baht, the cost of a mini bass is about 400 baht (to White Sand Beach), a taxi to the hotel is 2,000 baht. If you go by pick-up, then take the ferry along with the rest of the mortals and get as much as they do, that is, at Chang itself, take another Songtao pick-up truck that takes you to a particular beach.

Ferry to Koh Chang

There are 2 piers on the mainland side, from whereferries go to Koh Chang, and with different travel times. Ferries from Koh Chang Ferry Pier sail 30 minutes and go once every half hour, and from Center Point Ferry Pier pier ferries sail for about an hour at intervals of once an hour. They go from 6 in the morning to 19 in the evening. Read more in the article - Ferry Trat - Koh Chang.

On the island itself, the piers are also called. Cost, 80 baht per passenger in one direction, or 160 for a return ticket (reverse with an open date). In fact, it doesn’t matter what kind of ferry to sail, since the moorings are not very far from each other, where they were brought from there and sail.

The only thing I noticed is that the minibuses that run along Chiang itself are mainly concentrated around Ko Chang Pier, that is, at the pier where the half-hour ferry sails.

How to get to your beach on Koh Chang

If you bought no transfer to your chosenbeach (or hotel), then coming out of the ferry (no matter what the pier) you will see pick-up trucks, on which the word Taxi proudly flaunts. I specifically photographed the prices and you can see them below. The cost depends on the distance of the beach, as well as the number of people. If you come in proud loneliness, then, most likely, either they will not be lucky, as they usually try to assemble the whole car (12 people), or simply break a higher price. It may also be a problem to leave in the evening at standard rates.

By the way, if you have not chosen a beach, then I wouldrecommended to stay at White Sand Beach (White Sand Beach), he is the closest one, there is most of all housing for low-cost and normal, developed infrastructure. Just look around, and then move on, if you want to change the place.
