Russian food in Thailand or how to find familiar foods

I do not consider myself a specialist in the search for Russian food inThailand, or at least the usual products, because it is not very necessary. Well, I do not feel longing for all sour cabbage, cucumbers and herring. Maybe because more than six months have never lived in Tae? And you just have to stay much longer here to start beckoning to your own food ... But since we periodically buy something here in supermarkets out of habit or just like that, there’s some experience. About this and tell.

If you go to the supermarket and you will be thoroughlysearch for something, then there are a lot of chances that you can find it. Not the fact that you like the price, but if you just wanted to remember the taste, then why not buy sometimes. Personally, for myself for all my visits to Tai, I did not come up with anything that is not here, but I would very much like to. Perhaps only pumpkin oil is missing, and that’s not for us, but for Yegor ... I’ll go over the items that I think most people need. If you forgot something or wrote something wrong, then we will discuss it in the comments.

Black bread

Bread is both white and black. But in my opinion, he is not very similar to Darnitsky or Borodinsky, which is familiar to everyone. Rather something resembling 8 cereals or so. Price for a loaf from the oven somewhere around 100 baht. Sold in all major supermarkets, such as Tesco, Big C, Villa Market, Tops Market, and so on. It is done on the spot, and depending on the specific bakery, there will be different varieties of it. I know that there is a small private bakery on Samui where unleavened bread is sold. There are plenty of other bakery products: muffins, croissants, donuts, and so on.

Also, there is still imported bread in vacuum-packed and stored in the refrigerator, the price is about 120-180 baht for a heavy pack. For me, quite tasty, but also not quite right.

Cheese

Once upon a time, I wrote that the cheese is verydear, but times are changing. Now I see that he stands, as in Russia. The price starts anywhere from 300 baht / kg in Macro and from 500 baht / kg in Tesco and BigC. And if in Macro there is something to choose from, then in the rest the choice is not very big for this money - Edam, Gouda, Mozzarella. By the way, Mozarela in Macro is the cheapest, only it is not a classic white, but a white-yellow solid. All kinds of Gruyera and cheese with mold at a price approaching 700-1000 baht per 1 kg. But in fairness I will add, many of these varieties and we are worth the same. It is clear that there is no cheap Russian / Poshekhonskogo at 250 rubles / kg, but it is not very edible, as it were. And we bought Camembert for 245 baht one circle 350gr, which means 700 baht / kg.

Yogurts

Yogurts that you need to eat with a spoon are sold everywhere, even in 711 minimarketsincluding Activia. All of them are locally produced, but there are more expensive imported ones. My favorite is yogurt with coconut. And drinking yoghurts are not at all like our usual ones, although not everyone thinks so. I'm used to thick, like Activia or Miracle, and here some kind of liquid fruit drink instead, brrr ...

I noticed that all non-fruit yogurts, for some reasonsweet, although classic yogurt should be anything but sweet, like sour cream. These are unsweetened yoghurts should be found in individual shops. For example, on Samui - this is Home made yougurt on Maenam near the turn to Lomprayya Pier (50 meters from the turn). You can learn by the old pickup with the inscription Yougurt, which is always parked on the road.

Sour cream, cottage cheese and kefir

Cottage cheese in Tae need to look for imported. And since abroad it is usually called cheese, the inscription on the bank must be Cheese (Eng.) Or Fromage (French). This curd will be similar to curd paste, as if ordinary curd was mixed with sour cream and mixed with a blender. Sour cream, too, just have to look for it. Called - Sour Cream. Also some yogurts look like her.

Someone wrote to me that he saw kefir in Tesco or BigC, but I did not find. In general, cottage cheese / kefir can be made by yourself, using milk and kefir mushrooms. Actually, in some cities there are shops that sell it already in finished form.

Pasta

It seems to be not very necessary thing, but for everyoneI will write a case. The most common wheat pasta here is, as spaghetti, and horns, prices from 30 baht per pack. Rice noodles, too, is by itself present.

Wheat flour

What Russian does not like pancakes? So the easiest way to make them out of flour, is not it. Flour is sold in supermarkets and is called Bread Flour or Cake Flour. On top of it, you can easily buy rice (Rice Flour) and corn flour. Search all this is necessary in the department where salt is sold and monosodium glutamate.

Herring and salted fish

Herring ready to eat saw onlyimported in banks at 150 baht. The red fish we were used to was randomly met with just a couple of options in the form of cutting 300 baht, which is also not cheap. In general, the easiest way is to buy fish and salt it yourself.

Tea

They don’t drink tea much in Thailand, so there’s nosuch a variety as ours, and is mainly sold packaged in supermarkets. Argued that green tea is expensive here, but I found a couple of budget options that are sold in any store. This is jasmine green tea, one that I usually drink always. The pack costs around 35 baht, quite a good price. Also in the north of Thailand, I bought the most beautiful Oolong at about the same price, it was sold in the local market on the way to the highest mountain Doi inthanon. I think you can get it in other places in the markets. Tea will most likely be Chinese.

Specific

I, unfortunately, do not have photos from otherssupermarkets, but only from Tesco and Big C, which are in almost any city. And if the city is quite large, then there will be more stores and, therefore, more imports. In the same Villa Market there is a lot of things in general, for example, we found there our own favorite Quinoa cereals and gluten-free products for Egor (for some reason, we will have to try the diet again). But if, after all, the city is not very big, then there is a direct road to the small Natural Food stores, which are in any resort place where there are a lot of Europeans.

Rest

I'll give you some more pictures of different foods insupermarkets. There is already everything that is easy to find, without any preliminary preparation. Well, maybe only oatmeal will not immediately find. Usually it is represented by 1-2 manufacturers and is sold where there is muesli.

Well, and those who are too lazy to search for something, invent (cottage cheese, for example), and cook on their own, it remains only to find a Russian cafe, where everything is already done for you.
