Travel to Afghanistan

A trip to Afghanistan is not the best solution. But if a visit to the country is inevitable, then you must definitely know how to move around the country most conveniently..

Railways

You can even say that there are none in the country as such. The total length of the railway lines is only 25 kilometers. On the territory of the country, only two routes are active:

  • starts in Kushka (border with Turkmenistan) and goes to Torgundi (border village);
  • departure point Termez (border with Uzbekistan) - end of the road bordering Hairaton.

There is no passenger traffic at all. Railways are used exclusively for the transport of goods.

Country roads

The length of roads in the country is only 21,000 km, and only 3 km of them are asphalted. Since the country is in a state of incessant war, no one is involved in road repairs..

Good trails are rarely found in the cities of the country. In rural areas, there are no roads at all. That is why the main mode of transport here is donkeys and camels..

The only more or less well-groomed track is the ring road. It originates in the capital of the country, Kabul. It passes through the northern Khulma, then stretches west to Mazar-i-Sharif. The next point is Herat and Meimene, then Kandahar. After that, the road again returns you to Kabul..

There are very few cars in Afghanistan. And here there is only one car for 1000 people. But at the same time, you can hitchhike to any major city you need without any difficulties..

Urban transport

Have you dreamed of riding a cart or carriage? Then you have come to the right place, since the main way of getting around the city is carried out on these vehicles. True, regular buses run in Kabul, Mazar-i-Sharif and Herat.

There are also taxis in Afghanistan. Cars are our Soviet Volga. It is not clear how, but during travel they can carry 20 people. Passengers sit wherever possible: in the cabin itself, on the roof of the car, in the trunk.

The main way to travel between cities is by trucks. It is on them that people travel, goods and pets are transported. Minibuses run between Kandahar and Herat, but travel is not cheap.

Air traffic

The country's largest airport complex is located in Kabul. This is where national air carriers are based. In 2009, a new terminal was opened here. It is the Kabul airport that is the starting point for both domestic and international flights..

Another international airport is not so far from Kandahar; both military and civil flights are made from there.
