Airport in Vienna - Vienna-Schwechat: scheme, photo. How to get to Vienna airport
Airport in Vienna
The only airport in Vienna is Vienna-Schwechat (in German - Flughafen Wien-Schwechat), another name is Vienna International Airport. It is located southeast of Vienna, 18 kilometers away. Vienna-Schwechat is known as the busiest Austrian airport. The nearest town to the airport is Schwechat, after which the airport is named.
Austrian Airlines, as well as its subsidiaries, and Niki, which operates low-cost flights, are assigned to the airport. Interestingly, in 2008 it was recognized as the best airport in Europe according to the World Airport Awards.
Now the following terminals operate at the airport: 1, 2 and 1A - the latter was specially created in order to serve low-cost flights. The first terminal serves Emirates, Star Alliance (and its partners) and Austrian Airlines. The second terminal works with Qatar Airways, Sky Europe, British Airways, Air France, Iberia and many others. As for Terminal 1A, as already mentioned, it serves low-cost companies: Germanwings, Air Berlin, Niki and others..
It should be noted that instead of flying to Vienna, many people prefer Bratislava, Budapest or Prague, and from these cities to get to Vienna by bus, since flights to the Austrian capital are often expensive. However, it is difficult to highlight other significant disadvantages of the airport. Passengers are offered the following services: free Wi-fi, luggage storage, currency exchange offices and bank offices, a medical center, a conference and business hall, a VIP lounge, travel companies, as well as a chapel and, of course, cafes and shops. In addition, the NH Vienna Airport Hotel (5 stars) is located right next to the airport. The hotel has gyms, bars, restaurants as well as wellness and babysitting services for children.
You can get to the center of Vienna in the following ways. The most convenient, but also the most expensive, is a taxi, which costs about 40 euros. In addition, the airport owns the high-speed City Airport Train, which arrives at Wien Mitte station in 16 minutes. The train operates from 06.05 to 23.35, a one-way ride costs 9 euros, while children under 14 can travel for free if they are accompanied by one adult. If you have booked your tickets online or have the Vienna Card, you will receive a small discount upon purchase - 1-1.5 euros. Moreover, if you buy tickets from a conductor, then they will cost more than at the box office..
Another way to get to Vienna is the Vienna-Airport-Service shuttle (it is better to order it online) and the Vienna Airport Lines bus, which runs every half hour, from 6 am to midnight. The trip costs 6 euros, discount with the Vienna Card. Depending on the stop you need, you can spend 20 to 60 minutes on the way. If you do not want to spend money on the trip, then use the S-Bahn (Schnellzug) train, which runs every hour to Wien Mitte station. The price of one trip at the ticket office is 4.40 euros, and at the machine it is cheaper by euros.
