The Montreal Metro opened on October 14, 1966. It is the second largest subway in Canada after the Toronto subway. The Montreal Metropolitan is one of the few metros that is: completely underground and uses bus-powered trains.
Currently, the metro consists of 4 lines and 68 stations. The total length of the tracks is 69.2 km. Passenger traffic leaves on average more than 300 million people a year. And about 850 thousand passengers a day.
Line 1 (green) entered service at the same time as Line 2 in 1966. Trains run on this line from Angrignon station to Honoré-Beaugrand station. The length of the line is 22 km. Number of stations - 27.
Line 2 (orange) - the longest line in the network opened in 1966 and runs between Côte-Vertu and Montmorency stations. The length of the line is 30 km. Number of stations - 31.

From the very beginning of the construction of the metro, the city authorities took measures to popularize modern art in the subway: such outstanding artists as Jean-Paul Musso and Marcel Ferron worked on the design of the metro. The Montreal Metro boasts wonderful works of art: stained glass windows, frescoes, sculptures, and today it is one of the best in decoration in the world. Some stations are classic examples of Art Nouveau architecture.
