Cannes districts - name, description, photos of Cannes districts, where to stay for tourists
Cannes districts
Cannes, unlike many European cities, does not have a clearly defined medieval center (until the middle of the 19th century, the city had the status of an ordinary fishing village), which is clearly visible on the city map.
Names and descriptions of the districts of Cannes
- Center: main shopping spots and luxury restaurants are found on rue Antibes.
- La California: the English and Russian aristocracy used to rest here, and even today this area has residences and luxurious villas.
- Le Suquet: climbing Mount Chevalier (from here, from the observation deck, you can take photographs of the city and the harbor), tourists will see the main attractions of Cannes - the Suquet watchtower (its height is 22 m; the tower is covered with a legend, according to which lived here “The man in the iron mask” A. Dumas, who voluntarily left the prison on the island of Saint Margaret; today an iron mask hangs over the wooden gate), the Cathedral of Our Lady of Hope of the 16-17th centuries, built in the Gothic style (the collection of 19th century paintings and wood paneling brought fame to it) and visit the Museum de la Castre (its collection contains archaeological finds from the Mediterranean and artifacts that were brought here from Africa, Oceania, Asia, America; and the Provencal painting of the 19th century awaits guests here), located in a small castle of the 14th century.
- Croisette: This area is represented by the famous Croisette with restaurants and high-class hotels, and on the other side - beaches (pay attention to Plage l’Ondin, which has peach-colored umbrellas and a restaurant with an excellent wine list, and Martinez Beach - although beach facilities are not cheap, you can meet celebrities and enjoy water sports).
- Petit Juras: is a quiet residential area with mostly private villas and cottages.
The tourist map of Cannes will not allow travelers to deprive their attention of the Maritime Museum (it has a collection of models of ships, objects lost at sea, personal belongings of Admiral Paul), the Church of the Archangel Michael (here you can listen to choral singing and admire ancient icons), the Palais des Festivals (the venue for the Cannes festival and other events; the palace has conference rooms, as well as a casino and a nightclub), the Malmaison mansion (exhibitions of works by Matisse, Cesar, Masson, Picasso, Ozanfant are regularly held here).
Where to stay for tourists
An attractive place to stay for young people is the Croisette area (the advantages are the proximity to the sea and beaches): here they will find clubs that are open in the morning, but in this area it is difficult to find relatively inexpensive accommodation (accommodation at affordable prices can be found in the Center of Cannes and in the area Petit Juras).
Not far from the Embankment, you can stay in an apart-hotel “Citadines” (provides guests with rooms with a kitchen; prices start from 70 euros / day).
Do you like sightseeing of architectural monuments? Stay in the Le Suquet area.
