North of Germany - cities and resorts of northern Germany
North of Germany
The northern region of Germany has no clear boundaries. It includes the northern lands of the country, as well as areas whose population speaks Low German. The north of Germany is characterized by a gentle landscape and is washed by the Baltic and North Seas. Severe climatic conditions prevail here: strong winds, cool air, frequent rains.
Famous places in northern Germany
This region is divided into North-East and North-West Germany. Here are the cities of Hamburg and Bremen, the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony. The most visited city in the country is Hamburg, a port city founded in the 9th century. Its history is very interesting, as it is the hometown of many famous people (composers Mendelssohn, Brahms, etc.). Today Hamburg is the largest cultural center. There are at least a hundred concert halls and clubs, 60 museums and 40 theaters on its territory. In its central part there is the Alster lake, around which there are picturesque parks.
Hamburg has numerous canals, which is why it is sometimes referred to as the Venice of the North. It is a city of contrasts, where modern buildings rise among the old buildings. Tourists can take an exciting cruise along the Elbe from Hamburg. Bremen is an equally famous city in the north of Germany. It houses such famous buildings as the 15th century town hall, the 11th century St. Peter's Cathedral and other architectural monuments. In the northern part of the country lies the interesting region of Lower Saxony with its capital in Hanover. The territory of the region stretches from the mountainous regions of the Harz to the coast of the North Sea. Lower Saxony gave the world many famous people: Leibniz, Gauss, Bruch, etc..
Rest by the sea
The North Sea coast and the East Frisian Islands are tourist attractions. There are numerous parks, nature reserves, ancient castles. The area is popular for winter sports. The mountain peaks of the Harz provide an opportunity for skiing. Arriving in northern Germany, travelers visit the sights of Schleswig-Holstein with its capital in Kiel, Lubeck and its historic center and other places. The North Sea is known for its nice beaches, sand dunes, small islands and clean air. Here are the attractive resorts of Westerland, Sankt Peter-Ording, where surfing and kayaking are well developed. The nature of the coastal islands of the North Sea is very picturesque, but the inhabitants of the country themselves prefer to go there. Various landscapes can be seen in the northern regions. Closer to the center, the climate becomes milder, and the territory is covered with forests.
