Naples metro: diagram, photo, description
The system of urban transport lines belonging to the high-speed category in the Italian city of Naples consists of metro routes and funiculars. The system also includes suburban railways. The Naples Metro was opened in 1993. Today it represents two fully functioning lines. The total length of Naples metro routes is about 35 kilometers. On the lines, 32 stations are open for entry and exit of passengers, which are used by at least half a million people daily. The Naples Metro carries over 170 million passengers a year.
Suburban railway lines were laid in Naples and its environs at the beginning of the twentieth century. They were almost not connected by a single network, and therefore full and comfortable use of them was not possible. In the 50s of the last century, the first projects to improve the Naples railway system appeared, and in 1976 construction work began. They were successfully completed only after almost two decades, and in 1993 the first metro route of Naples went into operation..
Line 1 of the Naples metro has a track length of 18 km and 17 stations along its length. It connects the northern suburbs with the center. Line 6 carries passengers in the western part of Naples and, like Line 1, runs underground. Four more lines of the Naples metro are funiculars, included in a single system.
