Rest in Riga
Rest in Riga is a walk along narrow streets, visiting medieval castles, tasting national cuisine, visiting museums, theaters, cinema.
The main types of recreation in Riga
- Excursion: on excursions you will be offered to look at the Powder Tower, Swedish Gate, St. Peter's Church, Dome Cathedral, Riga Castle, House of the Blackheads, Freedom Monument, a complex of residential buildings “Three brothers”, visit the Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of Nature, the Porcelain Museum, the Space Exploration Museum, take a walk along Kalnciema Street (weekly guests are entertained here with concerts and events dedicated to national culture) and the Andrejsala area (art workshops are concentrated here).
- Active: those who wish can spend time in nightclubs “Saxophone”, “Casablanca”, “BigPoint”, “Essential”, “Depo”, play golf, laser tag or paintball, jump with a parachute (visit the airfield “Spilve”), go horseback riding and cycling.
- Family: with children it is worth heading to the entertainment center “Go planet”, Riga Puppet Theater, Chocolate Museum, Riga Zoo (you can watch flamingos, hippos, giraffes, lions), Mezha-Park (attractions work here in summer, and ski tracks are laid in winter), Botanical Garden.
- Event-driven: if you wish, you can visit the City Day (August), accompanied by knightly duels, theatrical performances, a show of retro cars, performances of Argentine tango dancers; Fashion show “RigaFashionWeek” (October, April); International Festival of Organ Music (June); Festival of Light “StaroRiga” (November), as well as at the Exhibition-Festival of Erotica “Erots” (late winter - early spring).
Prices for tours to Riga
The best time to travel to Riga is May-September. But it is worth considering that in June-August (the club and entertainment industry is working at full capacity), during the festivals, on New Year's and Christmas, tours to Riga increase by 20-40%. To save money, you can go to this Latvian city during the low season, which lasts from October to mid-December and from the end of January to mid-April (at this time, democratic prices in restaurants, museums and galleries, spa-centers are good).
On a note!
You can buy anything you want on the Central Market (bargaining is appropriate). To save on transportation and other costs, it is advisable to purchase RigaCard.
Since there are no big traffic jams in the city and there are quite a lot of parking places, you can travel around the city in a rented car (you must have an international driver's license and credit card). But if you wish, you can also rent a bicycle (you can use it to get to all city attractions).
Returning from Riga to your homeland, you should take with you Riga balsam, amber products, leather and knitted goods, porcelain, handicrafts (handmade baskets, designer forging items).
