Districts of Porto
The districts of Porto are very different from each other, and each of them has its own unique flavor.
District names and descriptions
- Cordoaria: interesting for its shops, classicist buildings and green park (ideal for walking surrounded by trees).
- Boavista: popular thanks to restaurants of author's cuisine, the House of Music (you can even enjoy music and concerts from the street, because the large windows of this building allow you to see what is happening in the concert halls; in addition, you will be able to refresh yourself in the restaurant, visit the open terrace and the music store) and the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art (after viewing the works of art, it is recommended to head to the shop with designer crafts and take a walk in the park, which is designed in the Art Nouveau style).
- Foz do Douro: pleases guests with a well-maintained promenade and clean beaches (ideal for swimming, morning jogging, cycling, creating beautiful photographs).
- Ribeira: here vacationers will come across buildings decorated with azulejo tiles in white and blue colors; the house where Heinrich the Navigator was born; fountain (decorated with the country's coat of arms), at the base of which is the figure of John the Baptist. It is worth noting that walking along the cobbled streets of Ribeira, you can go to the banks of the Douro River. At the end of June, the area attracts guests with the celebration of the festival of São João: blows with a hammer on the head are the most unusual thing that will await them (do not worry: the hammers will be toy or inflatable).
Porto landmarks
To get acquainted with the significant objects of the city, you should get a tourist map - with it it will be easier for you to find the Church of St. Francis (the building is made in the Gothic style with baroque elements; the walls are decorated with wooden carvings in the Rococo style; instead of services today, classical music concerts are held here), Park Crystal Palace (the park is divided into 3 zones - gardens of feelings, smell and roses; here you can look into the multimedia library and the Romantic Museum with the recreated atmosphere that reigned during the life of Carl Albert, as well as admire sculptures and installations in antique and modern style), cathedral (one of the chapels of the cathedral is a repository of a unique altar, the manufacture of which took 800 kg of silver).
