Porto metro map
The Porto Metro is a light rail network that operates underground in the center of Porto and above ground in the suburbs of the city. Porto Metro was opened in 2002.
The Porto Metro has 6 lines and runs in seven cities of the Greater Porto: Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Matosinhos, Vila do Conde, Vila Nova de Gaia, Maia, Matosinhos and Povua de Varzin. At present, it consists of 80 stations and 70 km of lines. Most of the rail system is at ground level and above ground, with only 8 km underground.
Porto metro lines
The line (blue line) between Senhor de Matosinhos and Trindade in the center of Porto was the first Porto metro section to open in 2002. In 2004, the line was extended to Estádio do Dragão, in time for the Euro 2004 FIFA World Cup.
Line B (red line) was opened on April 14, 2005. On the same day, the Casa da Música (House of Music) concert hall was opened, next to which now all ABCEF metro lines have a station.
Line C (green line) was launched on July 30, 2005, it allowed the townspeople to reach the center of Maya.
Line D (yellow line) turned out to be the most problematic project and was opened in 2005. The line runs from João de Deus and Vila Nova de Gaia in the south to the intersection of the Douro River and through downtown Porto to São João Hospital in the north.
Line E (purple line) opened on 27 May 2006 and connected Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport and Campanhã. A few weeks later, the line was extended to Estádio do Dragão. Travel from end to end takes 33 minutes, trains run every 25 minutes.
Line F (orange line) opened on January 2, 2011, connecting the center of Porto with the districts of Gondomar in the east.
Porto Metro tickets
The fare in Porto is paid by zone. Porto operates the Andante ticketing system, which allows you to buy single tickets and recharge passes valid for all modes of transport, including funiculars. Tickets are scanned at the beginning of the trip at the turnstiles located at metro stations. Controllers work on routes.
Porto's LRT trains use the modern Eurotram. The new FLEXITY Swift trams are used on lines B, BX, and since 2008, intermittently on line C. The speed reaches 100 km / h. Eurotram consists of four parts - two platforms in each carriage, connected by short aisles. Capacity - 80 seated and 134 standing passengers.
