Bangkok metro: map, photo, description
The Bangkok Metro (Metropolitan Rapid Transit or MRT) was opened in 2004 (the first section of the blue line between Hua Lamphong and Bang Sue) and together with Skytrain and Airport Rail Link forms the common rail transport system of Bangkok.
The Bangkok subway serves over 240,000 passengers a day. The total length of the metro line is 27 kilometers, with 18 stations: Hua Lamphong - Sam Yan - Silom - Lumpini - Khlong Toei - Queen Sirikit National Convention Center - Sukhumvit - Phetchaburi - Phra Ram 9 - Thailand Cultural Center - Huai Khwang - Sutthisan - Ratchadaphisek - Lat Phrao - Phahon Yothin - Chatuchak Park - Kamphaeng Phet - Bang Sue.
The Blue Line (officially Chaloem Ratchamongkhon) is the only one currently in operation. Since 2011, work has been underway to expand it. Once completed, the blue line will become a circular loop around the center of Bangkok. There is also a purple line under construction. It will connect Bang Sue with Nonthaburi in the northwest and will be the first public transport line outside the metropolitan area..
The turnstile system uses a contactless system: round black tokens are offered for single trips, and contactless rechargeable cards for frequent trips. There is no general system of payment for public transport yet, but in the near future it will be introduced and passengers will be able to use the same tickets both on the metro and on ground transport..

Bangkok metro opening hours
The Bangkok Metro operates daily from 6:00 am to midnight. The interval of movement of trains at normal times is 3-6 minutes, during rush hours - 2 minutes. Most of Bangkok's metro stations are wheelchair accessible. Lifts and ramps are found at all stations, providing easy access for wheelchair passengers. There is a security service on the platforms. It is forbidden to eat and drink on the subway.
Given that Bangkok is located in a low-lying plain and is prone to frequent flooding, all entrances to the metro station will be raised one meter above ground level and equipped with built-in locks to avoid flooding the tunnels. The exits from the metro stations of many stations lead directly to shopping centers. At the exit, all stations have exit diagrams and maps of the surroundings.
