Trip to Iceland

A trip to Iceland is a great opportunity to admire the unique nature of the country: the Valley of Geysers, volcanoes, glaciers, fjords and waterfalls.

You can travel around the island in different ways: by car, by sea, by plane. But, unfortunately, you won't be able to hit the road by train - there is no railway connection on the island..

Bus transport

The main task of the bus route network is to connect the capital of Iceland with its suburbs. Tickets can be purchased from the driver or at the box office, but already somewhat cheaper. There are special tickets for children, then for teenagers (15 ... 18 years old) and adults.

If you need to change trains during your trip, it is better to buy a special transit ticket. It is valid for 40 minutes after purchase..

Tourists are advised to buy a tourist card. It allows you to make trips on public transport for free, go to thermal pools, a family park, a zoo, various museums, and also allows you to get good discounts in restaurants and shops. Card price:

  • per day - 1000 CZK;
  • for two days - 1500 CZK;
  • for 3 days - 2000 CZK.

Taxi

All taxis on the island are owned by several state-owned companies. Machines work around the clock. The calculation of the cost of the trip is based on the total mileage (1 km - 100 CZK). At night and holidays, the tariff increases by about 15%.

You can order a car by phone. If you wish, you can go to the parking lot and take the car there, or catch it on the street. Mostly they use the services of taxi drivers if they plan to travel outside the city..

Sea transport

Since Iceland is a large island, there are a lot of ports here. The largest are the ports located in:

  • Reykjavik;
  • Reidarfjordur;
  • Akureyri;
  • Raufarhöfne;
  • Vestmannaeyar and several other cities.

Domestic transportation is carried out by three companies:

  • State Shipping;
  • Cooperative shipping;
  • Icelandic shipping.

Tickets for the flight can be purchased directly at the port by visiting the office of the carrier you are interested in, or by contacting a specialized bureau.

From Iceland by sea you can go to Germany, USA, Denmark, Norway and the British Isles.

Air transport

Traveling around the island by plane is the most popular travel option. It is air travel that the majority of the country's inhabitants prefer.

In winter, other travel methods are extremely difficult due to frequent snow storms and storms. Domestic flights are operated by the company «Flugleidir», but international flights took over «Islandair».
