Haad Khom Beach is located on the northern edge of Phangan, to the right (or east) Chaloklama. By its geography, this location is considered the edge of civilization, because it is near Haad Khom that the concrete road ends, which runs through the entire western coast of the island..

The beach is considered unpopular due to its remoteness and undeveloped infrastructure, but it is great for lovers of solitude and robinsonade. It is cozy, there is a lot of shade, a shallow but bathing sea and there are always few people. There is a problem with parking for cars, so it is most comfortable to come here by scooters.

Beach description

Haad Khom is about 250 meters long and is located at the foot of a 400-meter hill, below the level of the main road. Therefore, the beach is absolutely not visible from the concrete until you pass it all and find yourself at the viewpoint behind Coconut Beach Bungalows.

By this time, the road becomes not very wide, it ends with a dirt road with bumps, after driving along which you can get to a bar with a not memorable name and a beautiful view of Haad Khom. All approaches to the beach are paths on the hillside, and you will have to leave all the equipment in the parking pockets near the main road.

The beach is wide, about 30 meters at low tide and about 10 meters at high tide. I must also add that the beach is hidden deep at the base of the hill, in fact, it has the shape of a letter «NS», where its central part is the beach itself, and the side faces are rocks and heaps of boulders, a feature of the exterior of Haad Khom.

There are a lot of them here and a special feature is a scattering of stones in the very center of the beach, from small to hefty, as tall as a person. On some you can meet people meditating, and on smaller stones you can lie down no worse than on a sun lounger. Looks very original live and strongly distinguishes the beach from the rest.

To the right of Haad Khom, behind the rocks, there is another tiny nudist beach. You can get there only along the main road, after passing the place where the concrete ends, and then to the left along the dirt road on foot down. At the end of a rather dangerous path is hidden a forty-meter beach without a name, which is poorly suited for swimming, has no infrastructure and, in general, is wild and not trampled by tourists.

The sand here is very conventional, there are a lot of stones, but the shadow and silence, the most it is for those who like to retire one hundred percent. He does not deserve a separate article, so you can see the pictures from this beach below, in the corresponding section of the post..

Entering the water, depth and waves

Haad Khom is a shallow beach. Rather, the sea here is shallow, with a rocky bottom, a mass of coral debris and impurities in the sand. Wet sand is grayish-yellow in color, and dries to grayish-white in sunny weather. Quite dense, does not fall underfoot, maybe therefore the coast does not have sharp drops and is not subject to strong blur.

Although large waves do not happen here in principle. The beach smoothly turns into the grass under the palm trees, and just as smoothly goes under the water. The shallow water is such that at a distance of 50 meters at low tide you will stand waist-deep in water. But a lot of people come here with children, so this is a kind of help for parents..

Sun beds and shade

Haad Khom is a beach where hammocks take precedence over sun loungers. I have not met sun loungers either in the form of a rental or as an attachment to the bar / resort. People who come here are not demanding of comfort, they easily sit on sand or stones and feel quite harmoniously, because the atmosphere is favorable. There are a lot of shadows from the trees.

The entire coast is densely overgrown with palms and casuarins, adding to the sand these soft needles that everyone likes so much. Due to its geography, there is a shadow here at any time of the day and this is another plus of Haad Khomu from lovers of tuning.

As I wrote above, this is the edge of civilization in its literal sense. The end of an easily accessible area for tourists, a dead end of the main road, the construction of which has been in no hurry for several years. There is no infrastructure as such. Shops, ATMs, service and rentals - for this everyone will have to drive to the neighboring Chaloklam, since it is really close.

Actually - another plus for Haad Khom. Well, in addition to the pleasant neighborhood, there are several bars, bungalow resorts and a couple of good viewpoints on the headlands adjacent to the beach..

Houses and hotels on the beach

Bungalow. Everywhere there are only bungalows, many bungalows, various bungalows, bamboo and brick bungalows, on poles and on rocks - there simply would not have been any other building here. The entire location behind Haad Khom Beach is the side of the mountain where houses for the islanders are hiding..

Of the more or less large (I'm not talking about the rating) resorts, there are only two: Coconut Beach Bungalows and Ocean View Beach Resort. The first one is highly recommended, the main thing is to take a stone house. Let it be farther from the sea, but it is more comfortable to live in it. I do not know yet about private housing and expensive villas on Haad Khom.

How to find the beach

Turn east from Chaloklama (if from Thong Sala then at the intersection about 7-eleven to the right) and drive along the coast until the asphalt road practically ends. In the lowland after, as you go down the hill, look for a parking spot along the side of the road, opposite which there will be a staircase down through the jungle. Usually there are always bikes along the road in a row, it's hard to miss.

Down there, you will find uninhibited tourists, a cozy shady beach with stones and a lot of free space for your loved one. You do not need to have any special knowledge on the route, well, except for peace of mind, use a smartphone with the Google Maps navigation application, they drive very well in Thailand.

The road is good until the very end.
