Klong Dao Beach on Koh Lanta is a great family beach!
Klong Dao Beach is not stretched out in a single line, but rather resembles in its shape a semicircle with strongly curved edges. This is such a bay, the right edge of which bends rather strongly, forming a deep wedging of land into the sea. On the rightmost section of Klong Dao, there is no point in settling, because the beach is a walking coast, not a bathing one..
There are few tourists, and people mainly come here to take a walk and sunbathe. It is often possible to observe how Thais with whole families come to picnics. There are also a couple of expensive resorts on Klong Dao, which look pretty cute, but you have to go closer to the center to swim. The rest of this beach on Koh Lanta is gorgeous, but very shallow.

Beach description
After I drove through and saw all the beaches of Ko Lanta, I have a clear opinion about Klong Dao - a calm, beautiful family beach. In length, despite the fact that it is not Long Beach, Klong Dao is also not short. It stretches for 2.7 kilometers, and in my opinion it is a rather long beach. I even had to assign myself three shooting points, so I post photos of the beach exactly in parts..
Visually, the whole area is kind of flat, like Long Beach. In terms of beauty, when compared with other small islands like Phangan, Klong Dao is less attractive, it is not tropical in some way. It is dominated by ordinary Thai buildings, the coast is lined not with palm trees, but deciduous trees, very simple in appearance and inconspicuous.
The sand on the beach is yellowish, but when it dries it becomes very light.
Entering the water, depth and waves
Klong Dao, in terms of the degree of increase in depth, is very similar to Long Beach: The depth increases gradually. After about 10 meters, you will already be on the shoulders, provided that you came to swim in high water.
The ebb tides radically change Klong Dao for the worse: the beach becomes incapable and the sea goes 100-150 meters away, and then you still need to walk quite a lot on the water. Therefore, the standard bathing scheme is as follows: people walk until they are about waist-deep and just flop into the water. Indeed, in order to swim, it is not necessary to have two meters of depth underneath. Waves on Klong Dao happen with a favorable breeze, but because of the shallow water, it is usually quiet here.
Sun beds and shade
But the shadows on the Klong Dao, it seemed to me that they are smaller. There are trees, but mostly they stand in private territory, strictly according to the ruler, and give more free shade in the morning, while the sun rises to its zenith and gives long shadows from the trees. In the second half, you already need to move under the trees themselves, and this is already the territory of this or that institution, where it is not a fact that they will let you through.
Many cafes have their own sun loungers, so some of the tourists settle down near the bar and for drinks gets the right to lie on a sun lounger like a white man. There are not very many people on the beach, which pleases. There are actually fewer of them than on Long Beach..

Infrastructure
The structure of the area is quite standard: the main island road runs along the coast, and between the road and the sea, the entire first line is occupied by resorts and bungalow complexes. To get to the beach, you need to walk either through the territory of the resort, or along one of the paths between these resorts, which lead directly to the beach.
The distance from the road to the coast, that is, the width of the first line is not constant: the right side is quite wide and there will fit not only the first line of hotels, but also the second and third. But on the left side it is so narrow that you can almost see the beach from the road.
Klong Dao has all the necessary infrastructure for a beach holiday: cafes, restaurants, bars, massage rooms, a small clinic, several 7/11 chain minimarkets and a full-fledged gas station. At the very beginning of Klong Dao, on the right side of it there is practically a mini-city (taking into account the Lanta format, of course).
In general, the very first impression of Klong Dao makes it immediately clear that you have arrived at a resort village, which is just beginning to develop. Everything around is very low, one- or two-story, there is a lot of space between the buildings, the roads are wide and there are always construction sites or wastelands.
Klong Dao is an area with the most developed infrastructure on the island, and if you specify your opinion about the beach, then personally, it seemed to me no worse than Long Beach, which is considered the best here. In my opinion, both Long Beach and Klong Dao are quite similar to each other, and are great for a beach holiday with a family..
Houses and hotels on the beach
With excellent infrastructure and a wide range of accommodation, the area around Klong Dao Beach is considered one of the best on the island. Before the trip, I carefully checked the hotel reviews and wrote out a few for myself in case I decided to stay at the Klong Dao. Due to the decent length of the beach, I split the selection into three parts, like photos.
Right half of the beach:
- Costa Lanta
The central part of the beach:
- My home lantawadee
- Laguna Beach Club Resort
- D.R. Lanta Bay Resort
- Khlongdao Sunset Villa
- Lanta summer house
Left side of the beach:
- Lanta Bee Garden Bungalow
- Lemonade Boutique Inn
On the right side of Klong Dao, it is better to settle not near the main road (still quite noisy), but on the streets that lead to the sea. It is full of hotels and much quieter.
Hotels on Lanta>
Be sure (and I insist) to check for discounts or special offers on the excellent Roomguru service. He will quickly and easily show you discounts in all existing booking systems. In Asia, for example, there are a lot of offers on Agoda.com, which are much more interesting than for exactly the same hotels on Booking.com.
For the lazy, here are the direct links to the hotels listed above:

- Laguna Beach Club Resort
- D.R. Lanta Bay Resort
- Khlongdao Sunset Villa
- Lanta summer house
- Lanta Bee Garden Bungalow
- Lemonade Boutique Inn
How to find the beach
You don't have to search for it. Klong Dao Beach is the very first beach you come across when you arrive on the island, as soon as you cross the bridge between Lanta Yai and Lanta Noi. You will definitely notice at the T-junction (after the bridge) a sign for Klong Dao, which is only one kilometer away. For those in doubt, you can print the map below, or save the necessary markers on your smartphone.
