Klong Hin on Koh Lanta - a beach for survivalists

Klong Hin Beach is located just south of the beaches Klong Nin and Nui Beach. Due to the similarity in names, Hin and Nin beaches are often confused both in reports and on maps. But those who have visited both know: Klong Nin is a tourist's paradise, and Klong Hin is a survivalist's paradise..

There is a road along the beach that divides the local area into two parts: wild behind the road and wild near the sea. True, the Thais managed to put several bungalow resorts near the sea, but this did not affect the quality of the infrastructure and the popularity of Klong Hin Beach on Lanta. Plus there is a rocky bottom. Precisely rocky, because you still need to try to find a clean entrance to the water, where you will not stumble over the ancient lava.

Beach description

The coastline of Klong Hin Beach is simple, in places it sticks out, in some places there are straight even gaps, somewhere it runs along the plain, somewhere it crawls onto low hills, and then the road rarely (a lot of trees) offers a view of the sea from above.

In one place, on the right (when looking at the sea), there is the mouth of a permanent river, and there are a couple of seasonal rivulets along the beach. Only the first 400 meters after Nui beach can be considered inhabited - capital resorts have been built here near the mouth of the river. But the rest of the space belongs to nature and lovers of tent stops.

Sand of medium grain size, yellowish, in some places there are deposits of various goods from the sea.

Entering the water, depth and waves

The coast on Klong Hin is mostly gentle, with a slight slope, therefore, it is subject to changes in comfort depending on the ebb and flow of the tide. In low water, going 10 meters into the sea, you will only slightly wet your swimming trunks, and in the same place, but at high tide, you will be about chest-deep.

In the case of Klong Hin, I don't even know which option is best for swimming. At high tide you do not need to go far beyond the depth, but stones of different heights will constantly stick out under your feet. And at low tide you will have to walk, but you have wide room for maneuvers between the boulders. Their only plus is that they are huge, and between them there is clean sand, on which you can safely walk barefoot..

There are probably waves here, judging by the state of the coast and the washed-out roots of mangroves..

Sun beds and shade

If you are a guest of one of the resorts, you will have everything you need for a beach holiday. If you came to the beach as a savage, then as a savage and you will rest. Free-standing or solid-growing trees with shade are at your disposal.

There are also a lot of tall boulders sticking out all over the beach, but they should probably be viewed more as a screen from prying eyes than as a shelter from the sun. Moreover, I will not talk about the rental of sun loungers - there is no such pleasure in the form of a separate service for tourists on Klong Hin.

Infrastructure

Klong Hin is a long beach, almost two kilometers, and Horizon Road runs along its entire length, literally 10 meters from the beach. In some places the road moves 60 meters away from the sea, which allowed some landowners to build first line resorts, but they are all light, bungalow type.

A more or less decent patch of 150 meters wide is located at the beginning of the beach, where more serious houses have already been built. There is no usual tourist beaches here «roadside» infrastructure, with rare exceptions. There are about the same number of Thai residential buildings along the road as there are cafes or motorcycle services. Sometimes there are gasoline-fueled cars with red 91-m gasoline - well, this is standard for Lanta.

Houses and hotels on the beach

Somehow I initially did not plan to settle in the area of Klong Hin Beach, and the choice here is not very rich. What is typical - in those places where there are normal resorts, the beach is no different from the rest of the sites on the coast. The same stones, the same problems. As a home, I would take:

  • Sea Sun Bungalow - on the right edge of the beach
  • Narima Bungalow Resort - on the right edge of the beach
  • The Sea @ Lanta Hotel - on the far left bank

Hotels on Lanta>

Be sure (and I insist) to check for discounts or specials on the excellent Roomguru service. He will quickly and easily show you discounts in all existing booking systems. In Asia, for example, there are a lot of offers on Agoda.com, which are much more interesting than for exactly the same hotels on Booking.com.

For the lazy, here are the direct links to the hotels listed above:

How to find the beach

From Saladan, Klong Hin beach is at a decent distance, so there is no point in giving you any landmarks - you will still get tired of looking for them with your eyes for such a time. The beach is quite well-known, it has its own marker on Google maps, so it is quite difficult to get lost there..

Any path after Narima Bungalow Resort, which leads to the right in the direction of travel, can be considered as access to the beach. If you drive an extra kilometer after the resort, you will see the beach itself and free parking space right next to the water..
