My Philips OneBlade shaver review - perfect for travel

My post is primarily addressed to travelers who, for one reason or another, save on the weight of their luggage, and also love the stubble on their face. Quite a narrow niche, but I myself fall into it, so I can't help but write. I have been looking through various reviews of hair clippers, as well as trimmers and razors for quite some time, and then I finally stumbled upon OneBlade, which has just started to be sold in Russia..

Foreword

First of all, I will explain what my request was. I prefer walking around with stubble and doing facial hair for about 10 minutes a week. More, this is too much for me. Moreover, shaving smoothly makes me so infuriated, as if I go out naked on the street :) Not to mention that this is a daily torment, and if I had my way, I would have canceled the growth of facial hair altogether. Thus, I chose the option of weekly stubble and a small beard. «goatee». In addition to the convenience of this method and minimization of shaving time, I also like the way it looks from the outside..

Here you can argue for a long time whether a man should shave or not, but in fact, this is everyone's personal business. Some people like to let go of a long beard. I liked the expression, which says that you just need to find a woman who likes bearded men. That's all, the issue has been resolved. After all, it is usually women who begin to say that they (do not) like a beard..

So, in order to keep my face unshaven for a week, I have used a Panasonic ER1420 hair clipper for the last year. By the way, a good car, I can safely recommend it (and almost the same model ER1410), as well as its cheaper little sister ER-131, which I also had. All is well, but her charging is very heavy, all together weighs 575 grams. For me, it still remains a mystery why Panasonic did this, some kind of stupidity. Plus, when I leave, it is not very good to take the car with me, it may be needed here. That's why I was looking for a light travel trimmer. And I found him.

Philips OneBlade

Just the other day, I was happy to receive my box with a new device. Now my luggage will be 500g lighter when I go to Thailand. If it were not for photographic equipment, I would have gone with my hand luggage, but apparently not this time.

I still do not understand how to correctly call this device, because this is not a razor, but at the same time it is not exactly a hair clipper. More like a trimmer with a shaving function. Because she can't shave straight smoothly, a little bit (less than a millimeter) will still remain.

Beard trimmer (trimmer) Philips Oneblade

Oneblade is very compact and lightweight

The nozzles are small too

The whole set: a clipper, 3 attachments, a charger, and a protective cover for the blade

Philips Oneblade weighs 96g

Characteristics

- 45 minutes of battery life
- 8 hours charging (why so long ?!)
- During charging, the machine does not work, the charge indicator is only on charging
- 3 nozzles: 1 mm, 3 mm, 5 mm
- Dry and wet shave, waterproof
- Device weight 96 g

Price

- Philips OneBlade typewriter - 2490 rubles
- Replaceable blade - 1190 rubles
- For now, you can only buy on the Philips website’but

In terms of price, it turns out quite interesting. The machine itself is inexpensive, but buying blades in the long run makes it not quite budget. According to the manufacturer, the blades should last for 4 months, subject to shaving 2 times a week. I usually shave once every 1-2 weeks, so the blade should last for a year. But now I can’t say anything, we have to use it for a long time. On the other hand, if you look at how much replacement blades are now for Gillete Mach 3 machines, it turns out to be comparable. Although, if we talk about clippers, then many have self-sharpening blades.

How to shave

And most importantly, how the device shows itself in operation. In short, the first impression is very positive. I put a 3 mm nozzle and I turned my 6 mm bristles into 3 mm in 5 minutes. It feels like it is less powerful than a hair clipper, but it can handle it quite well. Of the pros, I immediately want to note that it very weakly scatters hairs around itself. With a clipper, it was a real scourge, they flew away half a meter and then you will be tortured to clean up after yourself. So to keep the stubble in decent shape - ok!

Then I decided to shave (everything except the beard). And the shaving quality feels like my regular shaving machine. Well, more precisely leaves a little more, not smoothly. But I am not a fan of a close shave and I do this only on rare occasions, for example, to be able to do nothing for 2-3 weeks afterwards (when I go on a hike or leave somewhere where I cannot shave). And how convenient it is for her to make contours! Really cool, it didn't work out that way with the machine, because the blade is always surrounded by an edge and it's difficult to calculate exactly how much is left there, you can't see. Thus, I no longer need to take a machine with interchangeable blades with me on trips. Profit!

Pros and cons

I will summarize what I have done so far.

+ Compact and lightweight device, the whole set weighs only 144 grams.
+ A universal device that for me personally replaces a hair clipper (read beard trimmer) and a shaving razor.
+ Separately, I want to note the convenience of making contours, easier than with a machine, but with a trimmer it was generally impossible to do this.

- The cost of a replacement blade and the need to replace it. And what to do if it's time to change the blade, but it is not in stores.
- Doesn't work while charging

Video review

P.S. What kind of trimmer do you use, or a machine under zero? :) Write the models of the razors / trimmers you like, which you take with you on your trip.
