Our review for Thule Urban Glide Jogging Stroller

Today I want to bring to your attention our review of the Thule Urban Glide stroller, which we were given for testing. The stroller is not simple, but a running one! When I first heard about such a combination, I thought that it would not be in demand with us. But no, I have already found reviews that some parents buy straight especially for running. And it's great that the activity is moving to the masses! Although, of course, most people use it as a regular baby stroller, because it is amazingly comfortable. The closest analogue of the famous Mountain Buggy Terrain models, only it is 4 kg heavier and costs twice as much.

Specifications and price

The Thule Urban Glide sports stroller is positioned as universal: for the city and for running with a child. There is another Thule Glide model (without the Urban attachment) with large wheels, a fully fixed wheel, so it is completely running. But I think it will be less popular, too narrow a niche.

  • The stroller is three-wheeled. Front wheel swivel, but can be locked in two positions.
  • Shock absorbers on the rear wheels, a power reserve of approx. 10 cm.
  • Weight 10 kg, load capacity 34 kg. We are relevant, Egor is heavy.
  • There is no hand brake, only a foot brake. It is tight, but its construction is indestructible, and holds very well.
  • The backrest reclines 160-170 degrees somewhere, that is, not completely horizontally.
  • The rear wheels are 40 cm in diameter, the front is 30 cm. The rear wheels can be easily removed by pressing the blue button in the center of the wheel, the front only with a screwdriver. Rear wheel width - 65cm.
  • The length of the stroller is disassembled, the handle is in a horizontal position, the front wheel is turned forward - 136 cm. The length if the handle is lowered is 115 cm. Dimensions folded 89x40x53cm with wheels removed.
  • Seat width 28-32 cm, depth 21 cm.
  • Price for August 2015 - 32,600 rubles. You can buy here in this store.

Review and photos

Let's move on from numbers to impressions. I think you already understood that we really liked the stroller. The first thing you pay attention to is how well it is made, it is even pleasant to touch it. The second thing you notice is control! No, I knew that three-wheeled carriages are easier to steer, but to be so maneuverable ... I don't know how about a fragile woman (although Daria also liked it), but I can easily control the Urban Glide with one hand, which is very useful in some situations. Moreover, it has such an easy move that even on a small slope it is impossible to leave it without a brake, it will roll away. Well, and the last thing, you would try to fold it, we have not yet had a single baby stroller (and we have already changed 5 pieces), which would fold so easily, it does it itself. I filmed this process on video..

I will list the various nuances point by point.

  • The stroller is simple «floats», apparently due to the large wheels. With such it is more convenient not only to run, but also just to walk, both on the streets and off-road. We specifically walked around the city and shopping centers, at the dacha on asphalt and gravel, through the forest and potholes to check. SUV!
  • As I said, cross-country ability is at a height, but the three-wheeled concept itself is not for everybody. For example, when leaving the curb (especially at an angle to it), the front wheel rises crookedly due to which the stroller tilts. It is unlikely that it will collapse, but you need to hold the handle tightly, you never know. With four-wheelers it is much easier in this regard. This is probably the only significant minus.
  • Weighs only 10 kg, that is, less than their classmates. Feels light, although looking at the figure you can't tell right away.
  • The fabric is thin, like a raincoat fabric, I read that in the heat a child can sit on it too hot, but we ourselves have not encountered such a thing, Yegor did not sweat.
  • Unfortunately, there is no bumper and for us this is a minus, somehow we got used to it. But you can buy a table for 2,700 rubles if someone really needs it.
  • When folded, it cannot stand (with or without wheels), only leaning against a wall. In general, in terms of storage, the stroller is a bit bulky and not for small apartments / corridors. However, if you have a classic four-wheeled carrycot calmly standing in the stairwell or in the hallway, then the Thule Urban Glide will even more so..
  • The front wheel is fixed in two positions: under the stroller and in front of it. In the latter version, the wheelbase is increased, and it is more comfortable for running. However, I was running with a loose wheel.

In a complex form, it is not worth it, you need to lean against the wall

The only thing that does not really fit into Russian realities is the combination of wide rear wheels and small shops and elevators in residential buildings. You will enter Auchan and Perekrestok and shop without any problems, but in a small store, where either a narrow door / ramp is installed, or there are narrow rows available, it will be cramped. You can't go to some establishments at all. It's the same with elevators, for example, in our house we are placed with a stroller in a small elevator (we also have a freight one), and in her parents' house she enters the elevator with great difficulty, we have to open the doors. However, this is more likely a problem not of this particular stroller, but of our stores / elevators, because with a regular stroller-cradle the way there is also ordered.

Do I need a stroller for jogging with a child

I'm not an athlete and I run from time to time, but overall I liked the idea. In reality, there is such a situation when there is half an hour of everything, and you can combine benefits for yourself (running) and for the child (being in the fresh air). Only now it is advisable to choose the surfaces for running more evenly, because if you run along ordinary streets, then the ramps, curbs and other elevation changes are stressful, the stroller, although it absorbs, but the child jumps on every obstacle. I will not say that this is directly critical (the child did not express displeasure), but I personally would like to have smoother streets. I can say the same about our forest, ridden by ATVs, you can't run around there with a sidecar, however, it's not super convenient to run there without it, and you can't get through with an ordinary sidecar.

Ideally, it should be compared with other jogging strollers, but I don’t know of such others. Therefore, there is only one experience. At first it is very unusual that the hands are in a fixed position, but after 5-10 minutes you get used to it and run as if nothing had happened. Daria said about the same.

P.S. Our usual Peg Perego Pliko Mini stroller did not last even a year, our potholes finished it off. More precisely, she is alive, but kind of loose now. Let's see how Thule behaves.
