Temple of the Reclining Buddha in Phuket - Wat Sri Sunthon
Wat Sri Sunton is located in the center of the island, on the busy Teprasatri highway, and therefore constantly stays out of sight of passing tourists, and packets with overviews are not brought here (allujah!). On the one hand, such invisibility of the temple deprives it of the attention it deserves, but on the other hand, there are never many people here. A Buddhist temple, few people, a neat and well-groomed area - this is a great mix that allows you to relax, finally lower your camera and listen to silence. In my opinion, Sri Sunton is a temple where you can return or be sure to taxi to a stop if he is on the way..

Wat sri sunthon
The temple was built at the end of the 17th century, and until it was renamed in honor of one of the heroine sisters (very famous characters in the history of Phuket), Wat Si Sunton was called Wat Lipon. The territory of the temple is very small, but from this it only acquired more charm. Even rows of casuarinas are planted along the fence, the greenery in the courtyard is clearly under the supervision of a gardener, plus ponds and corners of Thai sculpture - a peculiar and sometimes comic art - are everywhere. No matter how it sounds, local sculptors «craftsmen» - none. If in the evening you suddenly see their cement bunny peeking out from behind the fence, you can get a massive heart attack..
The construction scheme of the temple territory is, in principle, standard in everything, except for one thing - in Wat Sri Sunton there is the largest statue of the reclining Buddha in Phuket. Or rather, the longest. Besides it, there are a lot of smaller Buddha images, but in fact, apart from the statue and the historical renaming, the temple no longer has any chips. You can go inside directly by car or motorbike, it will take no more than a quarter of an hour to inspect the entire temple, but the atmosphere here is such that you don't want to rush anywhere. Be careful with dogs - they do not always react adequately to visitors.
