Cruiser Mikhail Kutuzov in Novorossiysk - will soon become history

Museum ship «Mikhail Kutuzov» moored at the central embankment of Novorossiysk, next to the Marine Station. Its length is 210 meters, width is 22 meters, and the thickness of the armor is 100 mm. The height between the highest and lowest points of the ship, the clot and the keel, is 59 meters. Experts recognized the cruiser as one of the masterpieces of world shipbuilding, and UNESCO entered it into the catalog as a ship of historical value.

Sounds impressive right? But in fact ... The ship is a sad sight, especially as a museum, at such a pace it will become more like an ownerless pile of scrap metal than a museum. Yes, not all tourists will agree with me, and there are still plenty of positive reviews, but the impression entirely depends on your expectations and imagination..

Impressions of visiting the cruiser Mikhail Kutuzov

As an attraction, I liked the object. After all, there is nothing like this in the district, and I was on a ship only once in my life and it was not even a ship, but a submarine in Kaliningrad. True, it was very interesting for me to climb the ladder and look inside ... But there is almost nothing inside! Imagine the building of an ordinary museum, from which all the exhibits were taken out. Interesting? If the building is some kind of unusual, and in this case the cruiser was unusual for me, then it is interesting, but I would like to look at the life of the team, starting from the commander, ending with ordinary sailors. And only the wardroom was in normal condition, the rest of the rooms were empty. Moreover, literally several rooms are open and there is only access to two decks. You walk along the corridors and solid closed doors ... Perhaps it would be more interesting with a guide (when I arrived, the group never got enough), but still I would have to be content with words, since there are no exhibits.

It seems to me that this cruiser could be made into candy. It is not difficult to return some personal belongings to the premises, even if it is some stylization, to give access to the kitchen (there was only a window open there), to the engine room, to the wheelhouse. It is clear that all this requires funding, which is not there. And the problem seems to be that no one needs museums in the country. In general, it was interesting for me to see, but I saw only part of what I would like. Therefore, I can recommend for viewing, but do not build too high expectations. And so the dimensions are amazing! It's such a huge colossus..

UPDATE. Several people wrote to me here that not a flag, but a jack fluttering, but no one explained what and how, except that the jack hangs on the bow of the ship. So I figured out why many people on the Internet say that it is the flag that hangs on the cruiser Kutuzov. The St. Andrew's flag is a white cloth with a blue diagonal cross, while a red cloth with the same blue cross and a white cross (as in my photo). But at one time the red paint burned out and thus the St. Andrew's flag hung on the nose (although in the past it was a jack). When I visited the cruiser, the old jack was already replaced with a new one, and now it looks as it should.
