Travelpayouts plugin for WordPress - easy access to API and widgets
Perhaps many have already seen the announcement, but nevertheless it is necessary to tell for those who are not yet in the know. Travelpayouts affiliate network has released its plugin for WordPress, which can be a good help for bloggers. Now it has become much easier to insert the code of a search form or widget into a post, not to mention the fact that it became possible to use the API from Aviasales.
The plugin used to be called KPD Tourismus and cost $ 100. Somehow a toad choked me to buy, although I had known about it for a long time. So the guys from Travelpayouts bought it out and made it free.

Plugin setup
By default, the plugin is already configured and you don't have to do anything. More precisely, you only need to specify your account details in the affiliate program. There are explanations of how and what to do, it takes about 10 seconds. Only then, you can change the appearance of this or that block.
I will not go into details, everything is in the documentation, I will just explain how everything works. On the page for creating a record (post), 3 types of blocks are available in the panel: Search forms, Widgets and Tables. They are exactly what we need. There are also settings for each of them, but as I said at the beginning, you can not touch anything. Each block consists of several tools.
Search Forms
Those that were created in the admin panel of the affiliate program
Widgets
- Map widget
- Hotel card
- Calendar widget
- Subscription widget
- Hotel widget
- Popular destinations widget
Tables
- 1. Prices per month per direction, one way
- 2. Tickets for the next few days
- 3. The cheapest tickets in the direction
- 4. The cheapest flights to the destination this month
- 5. Ticket prices by month
- 6. Direct tickets in the direction
- 7. Direct tickets FROM
- 8. Popular directions from the city
- 9. Popular airline destinations
- 10. Searched on our site
- 11. Cheap flights from the city
- 12. Cheap flights to the city
- Probably coming soon «Cheap flights for holidays»
As you already understood, previously only search forms and widgets were available to you in the affiliate program's admin panel, and now an extensive list of tables has been added (data from the Aviasales API). Personally, I liked this function the most. Yes, the API could be used before, but now it is done in a couple of clicks.
Thus, while creating a post, you can quickly insert the desired widget or table in the form of a shortcode, they are ready to use immediately after installing the plugin. However, before you insert search forms into an article, you need to add them in the plugin settings by copying the code from your Travelpayouts personal account..
Why do you need a plugin
Of course, if you only use one standard search form in your sidebar, then you won't need a plugin. But this form is of very little use. The best option is to use the necessary tools directly in the articles, in the text. And the posts should be somehow related to aviation mathematics. It is clear that for requests like «cheap ticket to Moscow» it is unrealistic to break through, so we need to come up with something on the topic. Here, the Tables are just very good, where there are prices for specific tickets for specific directions and conditions, you don't even need to click on the search, the price is already indicated, which in theory should improve the envelope.
Tables can be used when writing routes, collections al «where to fly for the weekend», place in your guidebooks about a particular city, in posts about airports, and so on. I know that it is usually recommended to work with selling queries, but in my opinion this is not for blogs, but rather for sites that are completely geared towards aviatics and affiliates. Probably everyone knows that I have another website related to tickets, and with 20 times less traffic, it gives a little more earnings in Travelpayouts than this blog, despite the fact that I don't do it at all. In the sense that once I spent time wrote several dozen posts and abandoned this case.
To fully work with an affiliate program in a purely blog form (texts), you will have to work with low frequencies and take the number of articles. Writing a couple of posts is not enough. Actually, this applies to all popular topics, now I am mainly busy with hotels and I also have to collect a little, a little there, a little there. Well, as I said above, in addition to this, you need to look for blog posts that are potentially related to the purchase of tickets, preferably such posts that are read before purchase, and not after.
P.S. If someone has already installed the plugin, can you share how you use it? :)
