Stockholm metro map

Stockholm metro map
Stockholm Metro (Tunnelbana) was opened by the King of Sweden in 1950, and today the metro system consists of three lines (green, red and blue) passing through the city center, with a total length of 105.7 km and 100 stations, of which 47 are underground and 53 are located on the surface.
The decision to build the Stockholm metro was made in 1941. The first line built used the existing tram lines on the sections: Kristineberg-Islandstorget, Slussen – Blåsut (including the old Slussen – Skanstull tunnel, built in 1933) and Telefonplan – Hägerstensåsen.
The Stockholm metro network does not have a circular (or partially circular) line, but has four transfer stations ("T-Centralen", "Slussen", Gamla Stan and "Fridhemsplan"). To date, a large number of stations are located in the suburbs of the city..

Stockholm metro stations

Stockholm Metro is well known for its station decoration - it was named «the longest art gallery in the world». Some metro stations (mostly the blue line) use raw rock layers in their decoration. At Rissne Station, the walls along both sides of the platform are decorated with a series of frescoes depicting the history of civilizations on Earth. On T-Centralen you can see the bas-reliefs of the 1950s, at the Kungsträdgården station (blue line) you will find archaeological sites - antique columns. The Solna Centrum station (blue line) stands out for its bright red ceiling and the walls depict a spruce forest. So for the price of a Stockholm metro ticket, you can see sculptures, mosaics, paintings, art installations and bas-reliefs. You can even join a guided tour of four or five stations with a metro expert.

Stockholm metro opening hours

Stockholm metro trains operate from 05:00 to 01:00 at intervals of 10 minutes during the day and 15 minutes in the morning and evening. On Saturday nights and Sundays, the metro runs until 3:00 at 30-minute intervals. During peak hours, trains run at reduced intervals from 5-6 minutes to 2-3 minutes. All cars are equipped with a light board on which you can read the name of the next station.

Stockholm metro tickets

Stockholm metro tickets can be bought for 1-3-7 days. Reduced travel is provided for the elderly (over 65) and young people (under 20). Travelers with early retirement documents are also eligible for reduced travel. The best option for travelers who want to visit the sights of Stockholm, while using public transport, is the Stockholm Card, which gives the right to visit most of the museums in the capital of Sweden and concessionary travel around the city.
Rechargeable SL Kort cards can be bought at vending machines or at MyWay ticket offices at metro stations. Single tickets (two coupons - one trip) can be bought at ticket offices or kiosks. If you want to get on the metro immediately, the ticket will be validated immediately - it will be valid for an hour on all public transport in Stockholm.
