Ao Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach is a great place to relax!

The uninhabited yet, not spoiled by good roads and tourists, the eastern edge of Phangan pleases with unexpectedly beautiful and cozy beaches. Ao Tong Nai Pan Yai is one of these beaches that hide in bays between impassable rocks, in a small lowland at the foot of the hills. The crescent-shaped coast, overgrown with dense vegetation, is chosen by several resorts and bars. And longtails.

Beach description

Unlike his brother Thong Nai Pan Noy, which is located literally a hundred meters north of the hill, Nai Pan Yai is a shallower, but no less attractive beach in terms of sealing.

Due to its inaccessibility, the beach is not suitable for daily visits a la «arrived, sunbathed, left». You need to settle in here thoroughly and for the entire duration of the vacation, so it will be calmer and safer..

Ao Tong Nai Pan Yai is about 800 meters of a wide strip of grayish-yellow sand with a slight interspersed shell fragments. When the sand dries, it becomes almost white. At high tide, the width of the beach is about 20 meters, and at low tide it reaches 40-50 meters, especially on the flanks.

If you face the sea, then on the left edge of Tong Nai Pan Yai there is a river that cuts off the main beach from Cape Klang. On the right, the beach abuts against the Tam Tong Rak cape, on which there is still no special development. The shore is curved, has a slight slope and is not disfigured by any kind of wave absorbers and concrete walls.

Entering the water, depth and waves

Entry into the water at Tong Nai Pan Yae is very smooth, in calm weather, when there are no waves and the sea, like a mirror, you can clearly see the bottom, clean without stones. There are several large boulders sticking out in the middle of the bay, and the bottom of the sea becomes very shallow closer to the edges of the beach..

On the right it becomes more rocky, and on the left you will find a lot of sand washed up by the river. There are no especially large daily waves here, quite a calm tropical beach. The depth of the sea, on average in the hospital, reaches one meter at a distance of about 15-20 meters from the coast.

Sun beds and shade

The beach is not offended by the shade, on Tong Nai Pan Yai trees grow along the entire coast. In the afternoon, the sun begins to go beyond the hills and draw out the shadows of the palm trees after the ebbing tide, so that the shadow on the beach will be absent only until 12 o'clock - the east coast, after all.

Sun loungers are not rented, but there are a lot of them on the territory of hotels and near restaurants. Basically, one hundred to one hundred and fifty baht for a cocktail - and you get the right to use a sun lounger without a time limit.

Infrastructure

The main road runs at a distance of 150-200 meters from the coast, therefore, on Thong Nai Pan Yai, most buildings were erected between the road and the sea..

In the central and left (when looking at the sea) part of the district, the infrastructure has already slightly overlapped the road. Here you will find resorts, bars with restaurants, rental offices, and even has its own mini-market 7-Eleven..

From the center and to the right, beyond the road there is nothing but the jungle, and buildings are huddled closer to the sea. The entire micro-area of the beach is an interweaving of very narrow concrete streets with services for tourists.

In general, the area, of course, is not very developed. Doesn't hold out, not up to Chaloklama, not naturally until Tong Sala. But it is quite suitable for a calm quiet rest.

If you are here, be sure to go to the observation deck with a bar on the very right side of the beach on a hill, from there you can see a beautiful view.

Houses and hotels on the beach

As I said above - the main development of residential premises took place along the sea line, and only some guesthouses are located near or behind the main road.

Unlike Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach, there are not many highly rated hotels, however I can still offer you a few things to choose from:

  • The Great Escape Chalets
  • The Residence- Serviced Apartments
  • Havana Beach Resort Phangan
  • Dreamland Resort
  • PingChan Koh Phangan Beachfront Resort

Hotels in Koh Phangan>

Be sure (and I insist) to check for discounts or special offers on the excellent Roomguru service. He will quickly and easily show you discounts in all existing booking systems. In Asia, for example, there are a lot of offers on Agoda.com, which are much more interesting than for exactly the same hotels on Booking.com.

For the lazy, here are the direct links to the hotels listed above:

How to find the beach

Moving from Tong Sala along the southern coast of Phangan, you will reach the bifurcations of the main road, and immediately after the confluence there will be a 7-Eleven mini market, in front of which you need to turn left (there is a marker on my map). Further - all the way, without turning anywhere, following the signs. The road is new, wide, but there are a lot of turns and ups and downs, so do not accelerate or relax. Thai roads are dangerous because they always come across something slippery: leaves, sand, snakes, water or oil.

When we drove here with friends, on the way in one of the lowlands, the water applied sand and when braking on it, the scooter went skidding and fell to one side together with my friends. As a result - a trip to the hospital and 1,500 baht for washing the wounds. Well, and then a week without bathing.

By the way, trying to swim from this beach to Bottle Beach, failed. At first, the boatman broke 1,600 baht per boat, and then changed his mind about sailing there altogether..
