Relax Beach - where to relax on Koh Lanta

Relax Beach is a small beach that follows immediately after Long Beach and it is quite possible that administratively refers to him, or rather, to the village of Ban Phra Ae. But Relax is located at a great distance from the main Long Beach, so people-tourists do not consider it to be anything more than a beach near Relax Bay Resort.

Cozy, wide, hidden from passing cars behind two hundred meters of palm groves and rural buildings. Not the cleanest beaches on Koh Lanta. It caught my eye that there are no longtails on Lanta, which in the rest of Thailand like to be parked along any beach. On the island, this type is prohibited by law, and really - neither Long Beach nor Klong Dao, I have not seen them. But on Relax Beach, there were about five.

Beach description

The sand on Relax Beach is the same as on all the beaches of Lanta: white and yellow when dry, and dark yellow when wet. Many small stones and corals come across in the water under your feet - this is very well observed at low tide.

The entire beach is a strip of sand 12-15 meters wide and about 450 meters long with rounded edges made of stones - a characteristic profile of a Thai «bays». In addition to stone piles on land on the borders of Relax Beach, there are stones under water, especially on the left side of the beach (if you stand facing the sea), and on the right side there are much less of them..

The beach, on the one hand, is well-groomed. It can be seen that in those areas that adjoin the resorts, the sand is cleaned and combed with a rake. But the deserted spans of the coast are clogged with marine and human debris, which is not always cleaned up on time. I would say that this is a beach for those who like semi-wild or wild places, without amenities, but also without crowding. At most, for one or two days, then it will get boring here.

Entering the water, depth and waves

If you stand facing the sea in front of the central road of Relax Beach on Lanta, then on the right you will have a cleaner entrance to the water, and on the left - rocky and stumbling. Therefore, Relax Beach during low tide on Lanta remains bathing on the right, and stones are exposed on the left, and no one goes here to swim - it will not work.

At low tide, I measured, you need to move 10 meters from the shore, and the depth will be about neck-deep, and at high tide everything looks much more interesting. Already in five meters it will be about neck-deep and you will be able to swim practically along the entire length of the beach: the water level is quite enough to swim with your feet down. There are not so many people as you get used to seeing on the beaches in Thailand, so the atmosphere of relaxation is definitely present here..

Sun beds and shade

There is no shade on the beach during the afternoon. The reason is that the beach is well washed by the waves, and all the old trees have long been blown away, only a wide sandy space remains. And all the trees closest to the sea grow in a private territory, where you just can't go and fall in the shade with a towel.

There is good natural shade on the far ends of the beach, and at any time of the day, but this pleasure is offset by the incapacity of the flanks. Whatever one may say, but those who like to swim in Relax Beach will have to walk a lot under the sun. There are sun loungers and umbrellas in the coastal cafes, a lot, but only for their customers.

Infrastructure

The whole coast is lined with cafes a la «bamboo style», where they cook food, sell drinks and offer sun loungers.

It is relatively close from Relax Beach on Koh Lanta to the main road, but the infrastructure of Ban Phra E village on the road itself is poorer than it was on Long Beach or Klong Dao. There is paintball, a couple of shops, some buildings, a motorcycle service and a lot of vacant lots.

I would say that the beach is more suitable for one-time visits than for living, although if you move on foot, and not on a motorbike, then there is everything you need for a tourist's life on vacation. Moreover, Long Beach itself with its infrastructure is close by.

Houses and hotels on the beach

The choice on Relax Beach is not particularly rich, so the selection of options is not offered by rating of housing, but purely by availability. On the first line there are:

  • Lazy Days Bungalows
  • Andaman Bay Bungalow
  • Relax Bay Resort

Hotels on Lanta>

Be sure (and I insist) to check for discounts or specials on the excellent Roomguru service. He will quickly and easily show you discounts in all existing booking systems. In Asia, for example, there are a lot of offers on Agoda.com, which are much more interesting than for exactly the same hotels on Booking.com.

For the lazy, here are the direct links to the hotels listed above:

How to find the beach

Judging by the map, there are two thoroughfares to Relax Bay, and I only drove along one of them - this is a normal concrete road, straight, and leads from the main road to the sea. The reference point for turning is a sign towards Lanta Happy Hill, only you need to turn not towards Happy Hill, but towards the sea. The road to the beach is good, 200 meters without dirt roads and ends with a parking lot right at the coast, with places for a bike and a car. If you take a taxi, you will get there without any problems, and if on your own, then the navigator will help you - all the points are on the map below.
