Klong Khong beach - like a fabulous Bali on Koh Lanta

Bali Beach on Koh Lanta, aka Klong Khong, is the next major beach and area of my route on this trip. Third after Klong Dao and Long Beach. There are two more beaches between Long Beach and Klong Khong (Relax Bay and Secret Beach), but they are small and can be disregarded. Therefore, the third largest and longest beach on Koh Lanta is Klong Khong.

Quite a strange place, «for an amateur» in my opinion. I understand that it is not very popular with ordinary tourists who come for a beach vacation, and I understand why - this is some kind of Mars, and not a beach. Nevertheless, people come, and housing here seems to be cheaper, so Klong Khong will always get its clients.

Beach description

The length of Klong Khong is about 2.6 kilometers. The uneven line of the coast, somewhere a bay is formed, somewhere on the contrary the cape protrudes, but in general, it is all kind of stumbling, with stones. From small ones that lie underfoot everywhere, to large heaps of boulders.

The entire first line of Klong Khong is occupied by bungalow resorts, and on the shore there are bambustyle cafes, which is traditional for Lanta.

If you stand facing the sea, then the left side of the area is the least swimable, and if you are going to settle on this beach, then it makes sense to consider housing on the site from the 7-Eleven mini-market and to the right.

Everything that after it to the left is a more technical beach, there are heaps of stones, and the beach itself expands and becomes a huge flat meadow, and even with high water it is almost impossible to swim here.

The depth of the beach increases insignificantly, that is, capital shallow water, in short for the beach such a bottom relief is tin as it is. Everything does not look very favorable, plus yellow coarse sand with stones. I would call only the right side of Klong Khong suitable for swimming, and even then - for an amateur. I didn't just titled this post «fabulous» Bali on Lanta, just the point is not that he is fabulous, incredible, but that fabulous, fictional.

Entering the water, depth and waves

What Klong Khong seemed strange to me was the bottom topography and ... the quality of the coating, let's say. Despite the fact that it is swimable in places, the beach does not look very attractive both at high tide and at low tide. Even with a good tide, you can clearly see that under the water along the beach there is a barrier of stones.

If you go from coast to horizon, then you overcome this barrier along the bottom, which looks like a layer cake: sand, sand with stones, stones, many stones, again sand. If you can swim across this cake at high tide, then there will already be clean sand behind it and the depth can be waist-deep, neck-deep..

And at low tide to the water will have to wade on foot and barefoot through all these stones, and only after 40 meters it will be relatively deep. In general - look at the pictures, everything is clearer there than in words..

Sun beds and shade

There are sun loungers near the territory of hotels and cafes, and on the beach there are quite a few bamboo gazebos with roofs made of palm leaves (such a tropical convenience, with a trestle bed and a table). Great shelter from the sun, but for free, without ordering anything from the menu, you will not be allowed here.

I did not see the rental of sun loungers and umbrellas, and there is more than enough natural shade here, although the beach facing west will always be hot in the afternoon, so umbrellas are of little use anyway.

Infrastructure

The infrastructure on Klong Khong is also there, although it is a little thinned out: everything is mainly concentrated around 7-Eleven, and a little further from it - it is already less dense there. There are many cafes on the shore and along the road. In style, they are all so rastaman, bambustyle, and create an atmosphere of carefree hippies, backpacker's paradise.

In this area there is one 7-Eleven chain mini-market, near which there is the maximum concentration of cafes, shops and other tourist services, but in principle, all this is available throughout the area..

Houses and hotels on the beach

Despite the fact that the choice of accommodation on Klong Khong Beach is quite high, I will remind you of my recommendation - to settle in the right half of the beach and closer to the center. There is more or less tolerable infrastructure nearby, and more or less decent seabed for swimming. Before the trip, I wrote out these three hotel options for myself:

  • Lanta Fa Rung Beach Resort
  • Hana Lanta Resort
  • Lanta New Coconut Bungalow

Hotels on Lanta>

Be sure (and I insist) to check for discounts or special offers on the excellent Roomguru service. He will quickly and easily show you discounts in all existing booking systems. In Asia, for example, there are a lot of offers on Agoda.com, which are much more interesting than for exactly the same hotels on Booking.com.

For the lazy, here are the direct links to the hotels listed above:

How to find the beach

The road runs a hundred meters from the coast and you can get to the beach through the territory of some resort, or along the adjacent jays (secondary paths of the settlement). The jays on Klong Khong are most often unpaved rather than concrete, and there are always beach exit signs on the main road..

I turned one by one, with the inscription Bali Beach, perhaps this is a cafe that you will run into on the shore. Maybe they position this beach as Balinese, but she herself does not have the word Bali in her name.
