Streets of Chisinau
Chisinau stretches along the Byk River (a tributary of the Dniester). It was founded in the 15th century and is currently the main city of Moldova.
Famous streets
The main thoroughfare is the picturesque Stefan the Great boulevard, which is about 4 km long. For many years, the main street was not allocated in Chisinau, but gradually this boulevard became the most significant in the fate of the city. Stefan the Great Boulevard is more than one century old. Previously it was called Aleksandrovskaya Street, Moskovskaya Street, Lenin Street, etc. Over the years, important institutions appeared here: the City Administration, the Second Men's Gymnasium, the City Bank, the Diocesan House, etc. Gradually the boulevard grew and changed. Currently, it bears the name in honor of the ruler Stefan the Great, whose monument adorns the intersection of the main highway with Banulescu-Bodoni Street. On the boulevard there are shopping malls, cafes, restaurants, and administrative offices. Part of this street is planned to be converted into a pedestrian zone.
One of the most attractive streets in Chisinau is named after Dmitry Cantemir (famous scientist and politician). The venue for all important social events is the Great National Assembly Square. It has survived the restoration and is the main decoration of the city. In the very center of the old district, there is a beautiful Victory Square, on which there is a monument in the form of an arch. While walking through this square, do not forget to visit the picturesque park located nearby.
