All beaches of Koh Lana - description from personal experience, reviews, photos
We already have beach reviews Phuket, Hua hin, Koh Chang, Samui and Pattaya; detailed, with full descriptions and photos. Today it's the turn to tell you about the beaches of the small island of Koh Lan, which is located near Pattaya..
Among tourists and residents of Pattaya, Koh Lan is perhaps the most popular beach destination. The water here is much cleaner than on the city beaches of Pattaya, the sand is white, the sea is azure, there is much less noise and bustle around. Sail to the island by ferry just half an hour from the center of Pattaya (and even less by speedboat). And although the proximity to the city is also a minus of the island - there are a lot of people, especially in the season, you can still find almost deserted corners all year round, since the coastline is quite long, with rocks, large stones in the water and forest thickets along the edges of the beaches.

In general about the beaches of Koh Lan
The most famous beaches on Koh Lana are seven (there are still wild beaches accessible only from the water, but there is no infrastructure on them). The most infrastructurally developed is Tavaen. Ferries from Pattaya come to it, there is also a songteo parking lot, where you can go to any other beach on the island. The downside is the huge number of people (and indeed everything: boats, merchants, shops), especially noisy Chinese tourists. The next most populous beach, Same, is also quite long, with good entry into the sea, and well-developed infrastructure. Thien Beach next to Same looks very attractive, soft white sand like flour, easy entry into the sea, good for children. Cafes and infrastructure are also available, albeit smaller. But there are not so many people either. The beaches of Nual (Monkey Beach) and Tayyai are good places for relaxation and relaxed contemplation. The small Sang Wan beach next to the Tawaen pier is good if you don't want to go anywhere..
With housing on Ko Lana, everything is fine, but on the beaches themselves there is very little, if any, everything that can be rented is located in the village around the Na Baan pier. If you come to Koh Lan and are looking for accommodation, you can look at RoomGuru, this is an excellent mega-service, you can immediately see in which booking system (Booking, Agoda, Hotels, etc.) the hotel you need is cheaper.
Tawaen Beach
On the edge of the beach is one of two piers where ferries from Pattaya arrive. The place itself is very beautiful: a wide strip of dazzling white sand and azure water, as in travel brochures. But there is also a very big minus - the beach is simply crowded with people. Almost all year round. There are several rows of sun loungers, a lot of speed boats delivering, waiting or picking up their tourists. Cafes, shops with souvenirs and beach accessories, almost a whole bazaar along the sea. Lots of noisy Chinese tourists, crowds of people from the ferry, tuk-tuk drivers shouting the names of the beaches. The beach is very wide, but still there are so many people that it feels crowded both in the water and on land.
Thong Lang Beach
This beach can be reached on foot from Tavaena along a concrete path along the sea. It is necessary to go to the end of the Tavaen beach farthest from the pier and turn around the cape. Tonglang is quieter and quieter than Tawaen. Unpretentious bamboo beach cafes and rental of sun loungers with umbrellas are open during the season; life almost stops in the off-season. The sand is white, not very shallow, the water is clear, entry into the water is not as smooth as in the neighboring Tavaena, and there is a strip of sharp stones in the water just off the coast. In the widest part of the beach, closer to Tavaen, there are no stones in the water. There are waves here in appropriate weather. The view from the beach opens to the constantly scurrying back and forth high-speed boats with tourists and ferries. There are also many boats dangling by the beach, waiting for customers. The beach is small in length, at the end of the beach far from the entrance there are a couple of trees that give shade during the day.
Ta-Yai Beach
Nice, quiet and relatively uncrowded beach. Small, at the edges bounded by rocks, in the same place, closer to the edges, there are trees giving shadow. Entry into the water is smooth. There are large rocks in the water, you can snorkel (corals and fish) or even go fishing a little. This, of course, is not the Red Sea, but for fun it will do. On the right, if you look at the sea, there are large boulders. There may be waves. Sun loungers, sun loungers, umbrellas for rent, shop. You have to go down the hill to the beach. You can get there by tuk-tuk from any of the piers. From the village of Na Baan, you can come on foot in 20 minutes, however, you have to climb the hill.
Nuan, Nual, Naul, Monkey Beach
Long and not very noisy beach. Several spreading trees right on the beach not only provide shade, but also create a pleasant atmosphere. Relaxation is also facilitated by comfortable sun loungers with mattresses, which are not found on other beaches of the island. Stones come across in the water; during high water, the strip of sand in front of the rows of sun loungers with umbrellas becomes very narrow. There is a nice European-style cafe with shower and toilet. This beach is also called Monkey Beach, Monkey Beach - on a hill next to a red rock, on the left, looking at the sea, there are monkeys, which are fed by tourists as an attraction. In general, when it is not very crowded (out of season, for example) the place is pretty, conducive to a relaxed beach holiday.
Samae Beach
One of the main advantages of the beach is soft white sand and easy entry into the water. It is convenient to swim, however, at the very shore the depth is waist-deep for an adult. There are small pebbles in the sand on the beach, but not sharp. At the edges, the beach is bounded by two hilly headlands with stones. Many rows of sun loungers with umbrellas, a large parking lot. Behind the rows of sun loungers, palm trees grow, there are many cafes, there is a shower and a toilet. You can get to the beach by tuk-tuk from one of the piers or by speed boat. There is an observation deck on the right, if you look at the sea, next to the solar power plant, from above with outlines similar to a stingray. Quite crowded, especially during the season, however, like almost everywhere in Koh Lana.
Tien Beach
From the parking lot to the beach, you have to walk along a concrete path over the sea, along the cliff. There is a garbage dump next to the parking lot, wires and pipes stretch along the stones under the path to the beach, garbage sometimes comes across in the water on the beach itself. But the views from the path are still good. The water is azure, the sand is white. The people in the season, however, are too many. There are trees on the beach. In general, entry into the water is very convenient, the sand is soft, entry into the water is rather sharp. There are places with stones at the edges of the beach. There are also several large cafes and many small beach cafes. Loungers with umbrellas in several rows, standard beach activities. Overall, the beach is pretty and very comfortable for swimming.
Sang Wan Beach
This small beach is adjacent to Tawaen Beach, they are separated by a small stone headland and a pier where ferries from Pattaya arrive. To get to the beach, you have to go straight from the pier onto the concrete path along the cliff above the sea. Sang Wan is quieter than Tawaen, and the water is cleaner too. There are often strong waves. There are stones in the water at the edges of the beach. Loungers with umbrellas in several rows. There are not many places on the beach. More expensive than neighboring Tawaen. Not a bad option if you arrive by ferry and don't want to go anywhere.
