What to see in Gelendzhik
At the very foot of the Markoth mountain range, which borders the Novorossiysk bay of the Black Sea, there is a charming southern resort town - Gelendzhik.
The name of this city is translated from the Turkic language as «White bride» and this has its own pattern. From the height of the Markhoti Range, the city with its snow-white buildings of modern health centers and recreation centers, beautiful streets immersed in green pine thickets, among which the Pitsunda pine takes pride of place, looks like a blossoming white flower. But apart from nature, there is something to see in Gelendzhik.
Despite the fact that the local climate allows you to comfortably rest here from May to October, nevertheless, the holiday season opens on the first Sunday of June with the organization of special events on this occasion. Namely, on this day, a costumed carnival procession with a symbolic name takes place «The sun smiles at Gelendzhik» led by a brass band, after which everyone goes to admire the grandiose fireworks over the Gelendzhik Bay.
Among the famous sanatoriums of Gelendzhik are the following:
- Sanatorium Gelendzhik
- Sanatorium Golubaya Volna
- Sanatorium them. Lomonosova M.V.
- Sanatorium Sunny Beach and a number of others.
I would like to say a few words about the mention of the name of M.V. Lermontov. According to one of the versions of historians, the poet arrived here in 1837, at the headquarters of General Velyaminov, after he was transferred from the court Life Guards to the army for his poem «Death of poet». As a tribute to the memory of a famous person, not only the sanatorium was named after him, but also part of the embankment, by the way, the largest in the world.
Of course, in addition to sanatoriums, Gelendzhik also has a private sector of various kinds, from cheap to very expensive. Compared to the same vacation in Crimea, private hotels are more common here. Since the resort is actively developing and the well-being of the population makes it possible for the season to recoup most of the investments.
What to see in Gelendzhik
Of the attractions of Gelendzhik, the following can be distinguished:
- Megalithic creations of human hands as far back as the first century BC. (dolmens of Gelendzhik), built of stone slabs, inside which there was a relatively voluminous room, about a meter by two. Their exact purpose is not known, but according to most scientists, they were burial structures for noble people..
- A directional beacon, the light from which is visible in the sea at a distance of 9 nautical miles. This is explained by the fact that his lamp is surrounded by rock crystal reflectors. No less amazing is the lighthouse itself, which has been operating without repair for more than a century, since 1897..
As well as:
- various waterfalls, the most famous of which «Emerald» on the river Janet and Bigius waterfalls
- Sail rock, resembling a sail
- an amazing place where a local handicraftsman gathered in one place, hand-made, reduced copies of structures - symbols of different eras: the pyramid of Cheops with a sphinx, a Greek temple, etc..
Many more amazing and unique objects, both nature and those created by human hands, are waiting for tourists from all over the world to amaze them with their indescribable beauty and originality..
