Where is the Auschwitz concentration camp and how to get there
If you go by car, then everything is easy, just use the map below, points are marked there. But if on its own, then there are several options. The closest cities to Auschwitz are Krakow and Katowice, from where you can get there by train or bus, which run quite often. I will describe how I got from Warsaw, by analogy, you can get from another city.
All information for visiting is collected in the post - All information about Auschwitz.

How to get to Auschwitz
From Warsaw to Krakow or Katowice
It is convenient to travel around Poland by Polskibus buses, buying a ticket in advance directly from their website, paying by card. Very comfortably. You can get from Warsaw to Katowice or Krakow. Katowice is closer to Auschwitz, so I drove through it. Buses run in Katowice 9 times a day, travel time is 4 hours 45 minutes, ticket price is 25 PLN. They go to Krakow 10 times a day, travel time is 4 hours 55 minutes, and a ticket costs 35 pln.
Actually, on Polskibus you can get to Katowice and Krakow not only from Warsaw, but also from other cities in Poland (as well as from Bratislava and Berlin).
From Katowice to Auschwitz
The train schedule can be found on the website, but you cannot buy a ticket there, it is bought on the spot at the box office or at the machine. Ticket price 9.2 PLN.
You can guess so that after the arrival of the Polskibus bus, the train will be about an hour later, just have time to walk from the bus station to the railway station and buy a ticket. It takes about ten minutes to go there. Polskibus arrives at PKS Dworzec autobusowy, and the train station is called Dworzec PKP Katowice Glowny. The train rides for about an hour and a half.
You can also get from Katowice to Auschwitz by bus, but they come to a not very convenient place, much closer to the camps is the railway station, within walking distance.
From Krakow to Auschwitz
The train schedule can be found on the website, but you cannot buy a ticket there, it is bought on the spot at the box office or at the machine. Ticket price PLN 10.
You can guess so that after the arrival of the Polskibus bus, the train will be about an hour later, just have time to walk from the bus station to the railway station and buy a ticket. There is quite a bit of walking, the train station is located right next to it. Polskibus arrives at Regionalny Dworzec Autobusowy, and the train station is called Dworzec PKP Krakow Glowny. The train rides for about an hour.
You can also take a bus from Krakow to Auschwitz (they often go), but they come to a not very convenient place, much closer to the camps is the railway station, within walking distance.
From the railway station Auschwitz to the concentration camp
Upon arrival at the Auschwitz railway station, you can walk to of Olecki, where I stayed, 20 minutes walk. You can walk to another hotel. If you don't feel like walking, there are local city buses, but what bus number is needed, I don't know.
If the hotel is not needed, then to the Auschwitz 1 camp go 20 minutes (as to the hotel, it is opposite the entrance to the museum), and to the Auschwitz camp 2 15 minutes. Everything is nearby. Between the camps it is also about 20 minutes on foot, but you can take a free shuttle bus that runs every 15-30 minutes. I marked all points on the map below.
