The Black Temple (Baan Dum) in Thailand - a Slaughterhouse or an Art?
The black house in the common people is called the Black Temple, apparently the presence nearby Of the White Temple, so to speak, for contrast. So Cherny, after all, it is a house or a museum, as you like, because they do not go there to pray, and there are no monks there either. It is rather an art gallery created by one person (Tavan Duchani), even if the buildings outwardly resemble Thai temples.
When I went there, for some reason I thought that there was almost nothing there, literally 1-2 buildings with certain attributes and that's it. In fact, this is a decent territory that continues to be built up, and the museum's collection is filled with new objects of art, well, if you can call it art. I'm afraid animal defenders won't like this attraction, but some Satanists will, on the contrary, be delighted.

Black Temple in Thailand
As far as I understand, the author's goal was to show Hell as he imagines it, well, or something like that. The idea is not new, there is already temple of Hell and Paradise, and more frank than Baan Dam, this is the Thai name for the Black House. I personally didn’t get the feeling of Hell, but rather some kind of exhibition center selling skins, horns and hooves, as well as stylized furniture. Apparently because the collections are duplicated, almost everywhere the same thing: either a dozen chairs arranged in a circle, or the skins of animals scattered around the room, then in some closed buildings everything is lying around in a heap. And the workers in the backyards continue to make similar items..
In addition to Thai motives, there are aliens. From a distance it seems that a spaceship has landed, and as you come closer, the building begins to resemble a dug submarine. And what it really is, nobody knows except the author. Perhaps after a while the pavilion will open and become clearer. Most likely, the same gutted carcasses will be inside. Or maybe it will be dissected little green men?
Surely, not everyone will like a visit to the Black Temple / House. However, what I saw did not cause any rejection. Rather, on the contrary, it is interesting to look at something unusual. In a series of identical temples, I would like to see some other look in order to dilute the familiar Buddhist atmosphere. On the other hand, if you want to return to ordinary temples or national parks, then it is unlikely. One time is enough.
Anticipating some exclamations about the knackery, I want to say - guys, you first stop eating meat, and only then talk about how you feel sorry for the animals. Especially, lovers of cats and dogs love to be indignant, although the cows or pigs that go to the sausages they consume are no less lively than cats and dogs. I personally no longer understand such double standards (sorry for the cat, no cow) than the creation of such art galleries. Maybe that's why, I don't feel any negative emotions when visiting any museums with stuffed animals and zoos, this is the world as it is.
Before leaving, you can go to the pavilion by the parking lot and buy yourself something home as a keepsake. Some items are completely harmless, others repeat the theme of the Black Temple.
Information to visit
the entrance is free.
Opening hours: every day from 9.00 to 17.00, and a break from 12 to 13. And although the territory is not fenced, they are not allowed there outside of this time, the guards stand around the perimeter with guns (just kidding).
It's a good idea to spend the night in Chiang Rai so as not to rush. You can see the city itself, its central part and visit several sights. It's nice to fit all this into a whole trip to the north of Thailand..
I once stayed at a very cheap guest house Baan Nukanong Guesthouse (my review), but it's very simple, I don't know who will fit. I think it makes sense to check out something else and book in advance. The easiest way is to search for hotels on RoomGuru, there are all discounts and the most complete database of hotels. Well, and you will book further either in Booking, or in Agoda, which will offer.
Here are a couple of hotels I've spotted for my next trip: Sirin place boutique and Nice Inn Town Hotel and Apartments. Both are in the center, highly rated, and very inexpensive. Nice Inn Town generally has very cool Deluxe and Superiors (with kitchens). Prices in the north are, of course, very encouraging. Everything is 2 times cheaper than in the south at the resorts. Use!
On the map
Located north of Chiang Rai. By bike or car, drive about 15 minutes from the city. There is a sign from the road, but there you can still get a little confused in the alleys.
