What to see in Pereslavl-Zalessky - our walk
I have been to Pereslav-Zalessky more than once. The last time we came to the Movement festival, but since the weather was bad, we decided to see the city itself, as well as look into a couple of museums and an arboretum.
It is better to go to Pereslavl for a couple of days, or at least for a day, especially if you are not traveling from Moscow, but from a more distant city. Otherwise, it will be hard to do everything without an overnight stay. Here's my post - A selection of inexpensive hotels with a good rating and reviews, among which I chose where to stay. And chose, in my opinion, one of the best options in town.

Author's excursions
For those who want to save time on preparing for the trip and immerse themselves more fully in the atmosphere and history of the city, I would recommend using the services of a private guide in Pereslavl-Zalessky. In my opinion, individual excursions are much more interesting than organized excursions with their large number of people and a hackneyed program. Moreover, with a private guide, you can always agree on a time and day that is more convenient for you..
Look below, selected author's excursions, not many, but high-quality.
Excursions in Pereslavl
What to see in Pereslavl yourself
Peter the Great's boat
Estate Museum «Peter the Great's boat» is located in the village of Ves'kovo, on the Gremyach mountain, 4 km from Pereslavl-Zalessky. The main exhibit of the museum and one of the symbols of Pereslavl-Zalessky is the bot «Fortune», the only one of the entire amusing flotilla of Peter I that has survived to this day. The first museum in this place was founded in 1803, later the Vladimir nobility bought the Veskovskoye estate into public ownership, and in 1850 the Grand Dukes Nikolai and Mikhail Romanov, next to the place where the boat was kept, a monument to Peter I was laid. Then, on a hill with a beautiful a rotunda, a triumphal arch and the White Palace were built overlooking the lake. In 1913 Nicholas II visited the estate museum. By his arrival, a belvedere and a pier were built on the shore of Lake Pleshcheevo, opposite the Gremyach hill. Now the estate looks a little neglected. Walking around the territory of the estate museum will be more interesting as part of an excursion. The entrance ticket to the boat costs 50 rubles, to the park - 20 rubles.
Blue stone
«Blue», or rather, a dark gray boulder is located on the shore of Lake Pleshcheevo, a few kilometers from Pereslavl-Zalessky. A beautiful panoramic view of the lake opens from the Xin-stone. Now it is the territory of an architectural monument «Kleshchinsky complex», and for the passage to the stone they take a fee of 50 rubles. As scientists say, the Blue Stone gradually sinks into the ground. Legends say that the stone has miraculous properties. If you stand on it, you can heal from various diseases, including infertility. People, as in pagan times, hoping for the fulfillment of their cherished desire, bring offerings to the magic stone - flowers, coins, ribbons. Local residents, for their part, also try: next to the stone there is not only a ticket office, but also souvenir shops where you can buy, for example, a ribbon and tie it right there, in a specially designated place, so that your wish will come true as soon as possible. But for me an ordinary stone.
Nearby, 300 meters away, there is Aleksandrova Gora, which is easy to find, marked with a wooden cross. The views are much better from there than from the stone..
Nikitsky monastery
Nikitsky Monastery is located on the northern outskirts of the city, next to Lake Pleshcheev. This is the most ancient monastery of Pereslavl-Zalessky. Historians say that it was founded around 1010. The monastery became famous thanks to the name of the Pereslavl saint - Nikita the Stylpnik. At present, his relics and iron chains are kept in the monastery. All the old monastery buildings were wooden and have not survived to this day. The monastery flourished during the reign of Tsar Ivan the Terrible. By his order, new buildings and walls with towers began to be erected. After the Soviet years of oblivion, the monastery was reopened in 1993. Now it is a functioning male monastery. The territory of the monastery is clean and well-groomed, there is a spring with a font. The refectory sells delicious monastery kvass, and the shop at the monastery sells smoked vendace from Lake Pleshcheyevo and delicious monastery pastries..
Russian park
As conceived by the creators, the Russian Park should become a place where samples of Russian life and culture will be collected, a place for family recreation, where adults and children can get acquainted with the multifaceted and original culture of Russia. In the park you can see wooden houses with interior paintings, a museum «Russian fashion, style and atmosphere of the 19th century», museum of Russian fun «Parsley». In addition to museums, in the park you can walk along the alleys of Russian architecture, fonts and paintings. There are also museums where you can taste kvass and Russian tea. In the tavern «Vendace» serves traditional Russian cuisine cooked in a real Russian oven. In total, there are 7 museums on the territory of the park, and many different sites. For 200 rubles, you can take a picture in a suit of the 18-19th century, and for children there is a playroom, a contact mini-zoo, horseback riding and ponies. From Wednesday to Sunday, a theatrical historical performance is held on the territory of the complex «Fitting Prince Alexander Nevsky on a horse». According to reviews, not everything has been completed in the park, so the project looks like «damp».
Steam Locomotive Museum
The museum is located about 15 km from Pereslavl-Zalessky, on the basis of the depot of the railway line, which remained from the former peat narrow-gauge railway. A two-kilometer railway line leads from the village of Talitsy into the depths of the forest. The museum was created in 1990; it houses a collection of locomotives, carriages, railway equipment of the 19th - mid-20th centuries. All these years the museum has been slowly developing; exhibitions are organized, equipment is being restored, and new exhibits are being searched for and acquired. Those who wish can ride a railcar, and if they are lucky, they can look into the lineman's room or climb inside the locomotive. The cost of visiting the museum is 150 rubles. The same will cost and ride on a railcar. You can walk around the museum on your own, but with a tour it will be much more interesting. More about the Museum of Steam Locomotives.
Iron Museum
The Iron Museum is located in the center of Pereslavl-Zalessky, next to the Transfiguration Cathedral. The museum building is a former merchant mansion, which was purchased and restored by businessman Andrei Vorobyov. In 2002, a museum was opened here. On the ground floor of the building, there is a souvenir shop, where various items on the theme of an iron are presented, or even one of the antique pieces. The second floor is occupied by a collection of irons, numbering about 200 items. True, they have nothing to do with the history of Pereslavl-Zalessky. There is also a small exhibition of objects of urban and rural life. A guided tour of the museum is included in the ticket price. Thanks to the visitor's involvement in the process, the light and casual manner of presentation, the short 10-minute tour is easy to follow and leaves a pleasant impression of the museum. Several times a year, the Museum hosts the Iron Festival, during which visitors can experience any iron in action. More about the Iron Museum.
Museum of Tricks and Tricks
The museum occupies one not very large room with a map of Pereslavl-Zalessky on the floor. Previously, the same exposition was called the Museum of Crafts. During the excursion, you can see the objects of peasant life (furniture, utensils, tools), tools and devices of folk crafts, find out what they used to peel apples or wash clothes, how to roll felt boots or remove bones from cherries. The guide briefly tells about the main exhibits and their purpose. The price of a ticket to the museum is 100 rubles, the excursion is included in the price.
Teapot Museum
The colorful wooden house of the Teapot Museum is located in the village of Veskovo, not far from the shore of Lake Pleshcheyevo. The museum is private, founded in 2003 by entrepreneurs Andrey Vorobyov (he also founded the Iron Museum) and Dmitry Nikishkin. The museum's collection contains many copper, porcelain and other teapots of various shapes and sizes, as well as old household utensils and everything that accompanied tea drinking, from sugar bowls to candy boxes. A lovingly restored Russian stove and immersion in the world of Russian tea drinking traditions make the atmosphere of the museum warm and inviting. Thanks to an interesting and exciting excursion, the museum becomes almost interactive and charges you with good mood for the whole day. It will be interesting for both adults and children. Adult ticket price - 120 rubles.
Money museum
The Museum of Money is located near the shore of Lake Pleshcheyevo, in the village of Veskovo, opposite the Museum of the Teapot. It opened in early 2010 and is located in a new brick mansion. The exposition was created by the owner of the museum, businessman Alexander Altunin, on the basis of his personal collection, which he collected over several decades. An entrance ticket, including a guided tour, costs 100 rubles. The museum displays coins from Ancient Greece, Byzantium, Medieval Europe, pre-Petrine Rus, Tsarist Russia, as well as coins, banknotes and securities of the 20th century. There is a small collection of Soviet toys at the entrance to the museum. In the museum you can not only see old coins, but also touch some of them, as well as buy your favorite coin from a souvenir shop.
Radio museum
The Radio Museum is located directly opposite the Goritsky Assumption Monastery, in a new two-story brick mansion, which was built by entrepreneur Gennady Semyonov for his personal collection of various radio devices, which served as the basis for the museum exposition. The museum was opened in 2013. The entrance ticket costs 150 rubles. The permanent exposition of the museum acquaints with the tube radios of the mid-20th century, both Soviet and foreign. You can also see the workplace of a radio mechanic, cinema equipment, the first tape recorders and television sets of the USSR. All radios are in working order, so that visitors have the opportunity to travel back in time with their help, hearing the long-forgotten sounds of the old radio.
Arboretum (arboretum)
Pereslavl dendrological garden named after S.F. Kharitonova - this is the full name of this rather large and quiet park within the city. The garden has playgrounds, shady alleys, wooden sculptures of fabulous animals. The garden is beautiful both in spring and summer and autumn, you can always find flowering plants or berries. It will be pleasant for both adults and children to walk here, to look at the diversity of flora of different climatic zones of Russia. It is more interesting to do this, of course, with a guide who will be able to tell in detail about each instance and its features.. More about the arboretum.
Our walk around Pereslavl-Zalessky
The city is quite small and most of it is occupied by the private sector; you will not see high-rise buildings and skyscrapers here. Population 40 thousand people, located 140 km from Moscow, included in the Golden Ring. According to Wikipedia, the city is visited by about 300 thousand people a year. Perhaps that's why the prices here are tourist.
We did not set out to go around the whole city, especially since the weather was windy, cold, and we were dressed like summer. The city did not make any special impressions, everything is typical for a small town: shabby houses, bad roads, desolation. In my opinion, it is worth going here first of all for nature, one Pleshcheyevo lake, which is worth it. But there are also plenty of tourist attractions, however, they are of a local style. So there is something to see in a couple of days. I will list below.
