I am slowly getting ready for a trip to Sochi, where we are going to go for a month in order to see what kind of city it is, and if we will like it in terms of temporary residence. Some of our friends have already left there and are not going to return yet, however, they do not live in the city itself, but on the outskirts. On the contrary, we would like to settle almost in the very center in order to grasp the essence as quickly as possible, because there will be little time.

In general, while I was choosing an apartment for us, I made a whole list of things (including those not in the center of Sochi) that I liked more or less, from the design to the location. Well, or the reason for getting into the list was a combination of factors. Where to look

There are a lot of websites offering apartments now. I singled out only 3 major ones for myself: the Booking.com hotel booking service, the well-known Avito and the increasingly popular Airbnb. You can also search on the spot, in fact, arrived at the station, found someone with a sign «apartment by the sea» and settled in. The latter option does not suit me at all, so I choose Booking as a convenient and proven service. Previously, there were very few offers of apartments (apart-hotels) and apartments on Booking, but the situation is changing and there is more and more choice. And Avito is more suitable for long-term rental, as it seems to me.

Through Airbnb, you can also rent housing from individuals and without intermediaries (most often), both for a day, and for a week, a month.

The nuances of renting an apartment

When I was looking for an apartment for us, I came across some nuances. Perhaps, I did not notice all the points, so I will list only what I paid attention to.

Many apartments have a large number of sleeping places. That is, the apartment is two-room, and almost 10 people can stay there. The season is short, so the owners are trying to earn as much as possible. If the company is large, then maybe it's for the better, and if you are traveling as one family, then why do you need housing filled with rows of beds.
Often the cost is calculated for the number of people (starting with the first), so you need to immediately set the required number. It is somehow not quite familiar after other countries, where the price goes immediately for the apartment, and not for the number of people in it..
Addition to the previous point. A child often follows an adult, therefore, if the cost of an apartment is not fixed and depends on the number of people, then immediately check with the owner whether it is necessary to pay for the child.
Be prepared for the fact that some hosts do not understand at all how the booking services work. Some will ask for payment in cash (both for the apartment and the security deposit). Others will say a different price or offer a different apartment. Still others are agents, not masters.
Addition to the previous point. The hosts do not have to bother filling in the various fields where the amenities are prescribed. For example, they will not mark a washing machine, although in fact it is. Therefore, when searching, it is not always worth using filters, especially if there are few search results..
Often there is no internet in the apartments, although it would seem a penny service. Now the wired Internet is cheap, and the 3G modem can be installed if the wired one is not installed in any way.
If the apartment is large and designed for a large number of people, and there are very few of you, then one of the rooms may be closed.
The cost of an apartment often depends on the month. Typically, ascending June => July => August. Out of season cheaper.
Well, and the last point. Some apartments have a rather controversial design ... Of course, for many, vacation homes are just a place where you come to spend the night, but grandmother's old furniture, carpets on the walls, flashy wallpaper colors are just for everyone. Sometimes there is a feeling that everything is for rent, and this is positioned as a super-duper-luxury housing with an appropriate price, and whoever disagrees, he gets drunk.
