Phaeng Waterfall - the best waterfall in Phangan at Tan Sadet National Park

Paeng Falls (or Peng / Paeng Falls in Phangan) is just one of several attractions inside the official Tan Sadet National Park, which is located approximately in the center of the island, a little closer to Thong Sale. It's just on the way to the main road that connects Tong Salu and Chaloklam. The park occupies a fairly large area on the mountainous section of the island, where rare plant species grow, there are three waterfalls, fonts and one good viewpoint «House of Power» overlooking the southwestern part of Koh Phangan, Koh Samui and the islands of Angthong Marina Park. In general, a leisurely visit to this place should be planned so that you have at least 1-2 free hours and a supply of water..

Phaeng Waterfall

For a long time I was going to this waterfall, for some reason it seemed to me that it was quite a long time to stomp before it and inspiration for trekking still did not come. Therefore, almost on the last day of my stay in Phangan, in the evening I dropped in here with such a thought that «I will see what I have in time». In fact, everything turned out to be located very compactly and close by. The whole walk took me no more than an hour. It should be noted that I ran everywhere, for me there is a special thrill in this - to jump along the path with roots. Immediately, childhood is remembered, because wherever we ran, and what kind of fence trees we didn’t climb. Again, there is even such a sport - running over rough and mountainous terrain. I do not pretend to be an athlete, but when you need to be in time before dark, why not.

So, the first Phaeng Noi waterfall is literally a 5-minute walk from the parking lot. It is clearly visible and looks quite photogenic even from the place where the stele with the name is installed. But you can come closer and climb the stones near the water, which many tourists do..

Until the next waterfall, Phaeng Yai, you have to walk another 100 meters upstream, you just need to walk a little along the trail without any difficulties and difficult turns. On my arrival, the sign with the pointer to the waterfall was broken (or removed), so it was not entirely obvious that there was something interesting behind the trees. To see Peng Yai himself, you need to walk a little over the stones, which I did.

The third waterfall (Tham Nam Rak) is even higher and it is already necessary to climb up a concrete ladder to it. On the way, you will pass a fork, where the path goes straight to the waterfall, and to the left - to the Dom Sila observation deck. From the fork to the waterfall, you need to walk just a couple more minutes, and the waterfall itself turns out to be quite small. But then there is a font in which you can splash. However, such fonts are found along the entire channel, and differ only in size and the number of people who got to them. Throughout the route, where these 3 waterfalls are located, you are unlikely to be left alone. Leave the thoughts of swimming naked or in cozy solitude - there are many people walking along the trail during the season.

Viewpoint Dom Sila

On the way back after the third waterfall, I recommend going to the viewpoint. From the fork to go up about 10 minutes, no more, but the road is not very good. More precisely, not even a road, not a staircase, but a natural trail, that is, a path with an intricate relief and different levels of difficulty. However, if you do not have health problems, then it will hardly be hard. But up there, there is a stunning view of the entire southern Phangan. A good place to relax a bit and sit on the edge, think about the eternal. Surprisingly, I got there almost at 6 pm, and people were sitting there, and, unlike me, they were in no hurry at all and they were clearly not embarrassed by the prospect of going back down in the dark.

Information to visit

Entrance to the park and parking is free, from 8 am to 5 pm, then the park is considered closed. When entering, I recommend buying more water, because the jungle is hot and humid, and if you gather your strength and climb the viewpoint, then water is necessary. You can swim in all reservoirs, but do not forget about the rules of decency in clothes - the place is visited by Thai tourists as well. If you really want to release the beast and relax in the nude style, then you should climb to the end of the trail, concrete and dirt. When it is over, in ten minutes after jumping over the stones, the font will begin, where onlookers with cameras do not come and where local expats like to hang out, who don't care what you are wearing.

P.S. Nothing really special, yes. But the waterfalls in Phangan are not his strong point. Therefore, when compared with popular waterfalls Paradise and Wang Sai, then Paeng with his viewpoint is the best.
