The original goal was get to Victoria Peak, but first I wanted to look at the world's longest escalator, it is quite close there, in the sense of the same direction as the top. Length 800 meters! It is listed in the Guinness Book of Records, which is generally not surprising. I can’t say that the spectacle is very exciting, but if you’re nearby, I recommend to go, you can combine it with visiting something, for example, with the same peak..

The longest escalator in the world
The street escalator (Central-Mid-Levels Escalator), as I said, is not exactly a tourist attraction, but I personally liked it. It's great, you go, you look around, life is in full swing, people are in a hurry to work and on business, tourists idly stroll, they wash dishes in the windows of Filipina. A fascinating process, I tell you, is to drive up the city and look at everything, stopping only to take a photo and move to another level of the escalator. It is not entirely 800 meters, but in total in parts it is considered, there are about 20 sections. A great way to peer into the back streets, courtyards, and real life.
If you are not in a hurry, the action can be extended by stopping for breakfast in some cafe, of which there are plenty along the way. But you can quickly go up, take pictures and back, the ascent will take only 20 minutes. True, you will have to go back down on foot, but more on that below in the information block..
A terminal is installed in one of the horizontal crossings, where you can get 2 Hong Kong dollars for free as a gift for Oktopus map, trifle, but nice. Apparently another incentive to use the escalator. Since I was there once, I don't know for sure, but I suppose that you can get this bonus only once a day..
When you find yourself at the very top, you can continue your journey and reach Victoria Peak (how to get), somewhere else 30 minutes to go. First, a little through the city, and then along Old Peak Road through the forest. It is difficult to get lost, especially if there is a GPS in the smartphone, but the road is always up.
Escalator operating hours
The escalator is open every day from 6 am to 10.30 am for the descent, then from 10.30 am to 12 am for the ascent. The escalator is free. This working time was not chosen by chance, it was done so that people would use it to deliver their bodies to the office instead of a car. A good solution to eliminate traffic jams, isn't it?
Thus, if you are going to climb on it, then you need to appear there no earlier than 10.30 in the morning..
On the map
Getting to the escalator is pretty easy. It is close to Central or Hongkong subway. Here's a map to make it clearer. Since it consists of sections, you can get to it on almost every street that it crosses, the approximate beginning is where the point is, but in general the transition (second level) starts right near the Honkong subway in one of the shopping centers, just this piece horizontal.
