Thong Tanod Beach - uninhabited island of Koh Samui
Thong Tanod Beach is adjacent to Thong Krut beach, in the southwestern part of Koh Samui. Tong Tanod is two kilometers of coastline between a concrete, abandoned pier and Cape Hin Khom (Laem Hin Khom). Like most of the southern beaches of the island, Thong Tanote is very shallow. However, almost in the center of the beach there is a 300-meter stretch of coast with a deep sea, to which boats and longtails - Thai boats - calmly approach. Here is the Tongtanod pier.

Beach description
The sand on Tong Tanot beach is brown and very coarse, especially in the central part. The consistency of the sand changes slightly towards the west of Tong Tanote, where it becomes lighter and finer. Large boulders and concrete pillars in the water are often seen at the edges of the beach. The beach is kept clean ... nowhere.
If we sum up the total length of the built-up part of Tong Tanot beach, it turns out that out of two kilometers, only 200 m are occupied by houses. Everything else is one big, green wasteland. Therefore, the beach is in a wild state, polluted and cleaned only by waves..
Three kilometers to the south, the so-called «Coral islands», a group of small islets popular with tourists, snorkelers and wild beach lovers. These are Koh Taen, Koh Mat Sum, Koh Wang Nai, Koh Rhab and several unnamed land areas. In case anyone is interested in reading about other places, I have a short overview of all the beaches of Koh Samui, will help you decide on the choice of the beach.
Entering the water, depth and waves
Shallow water always greatly affects the quality of a beach holiday, especially at low tides. Tong Tanot in this regard is no different from Bang Kao, Tong Kruta and Nahaya. The sea creeps up to hundreds of meters to the horizon, leaving a wet strip of muddy sand on the shore and areas of the bottom covered with silt and stones. It is not safe to enter the water without special shoes.
And in special shoes you will have to walk more than a dozen meters knee-deep in water with algae and stumbling on cobblestones. The sea on Tong Tanote is unbreakable, neither in good weather, nor in bad. When the sea is rough, in the center of the beach, opposite the Tongtanod pier, the waves hit the buildings on the shore, so most of the owners protected the foundations of the buildings with concrete and stone parapets..
Sun beds and shade
No beach equipment found on Tong Tanote. Five resorts, which are located along the coast, do not run the risk of putting sun loungers and umbrellas on the constantly flooded beach, so clients of the resorts receive all the amenities on the territory of their residence.
For a wild getaway with a personal beach mat, there are plenty of sources of natural shade, especially in the western part of Tong Tanote. In the center, tall palms grow more, which look great in the pictures and do not give normal shelter from the sun's rays..

Infrastructure
If you have already read the description of the beach Tong Krut, then they remembered that this is the very wilderness of the island. Thong Tanoot Beach is located even further, this is a quiet, forgotten by God and people corner of Samui. With large stores in Tong Tanote, everything is not very good, with mini-markets, the situation is exactly the same..
There are several tai-shops with beer, chips and snacks, but the main grocery purchases are made by local longsters in the nearest to the beach Tesco Lotus, on Lamai. Not far from Tong Tanote there are sights that are worth seeing:
- Laem Sor Pagoda;
- Buddha Stupa, aka Khao Chedi;
- Kirimat Temple (War Kee Ree Mat);
- Abandoned concrete pier near the temple;
- Mangroves with a footbridge;
A large concentration of boats and boaters, the availability of the necessary equipment for rent and offices that provide professional diving, snorkeling and fishing services, allow you to agree on a private tour to the nearby islands or buy a snorkeling tour, or just go out to sea and go fishing. There are several restaurants on the shore with sea views and the freshest seafood every day.
Houses and hotels on the beach
On the cliffs of Cape Hin Khom, on the west of Thong Tanote Beach, is the huge and expensive Conrad Hotel. Despite its price category, Konrad does not have his own beach. Four or five resorts are located directly on Thong Tanoot Beach, and several resorts and houses are scattered between the beach and 4170 road, some of which offer accommodation for rent.
Two well-reviewed resorts right on the beach, the pleasant looking and spacious Centra Coconut and the simpler Jinta Beach Samui with small huts.
The eastern edge of the beach rests on a mountain on which there is nothing but a Buddhist temple and a beautiful observation deck. If you want to book a hotel here in advance or look for accommodation on other beaches, I have selection of hotels on Koh Samui with a good rating and reviews.

Be sure (and I insist) to check for discounts or special offers on the excellent Roomguru service. He will quickly and easily show you discounts in all existing booking systems. In Asia, for example, there are a lot of offers on Agoda.com, which are much more interesting than for exactly the same hotels on Booking.com.

How to find the beach
To get to the beach, there is no need to go through private territories, there are plenty of wastelands for free access to the water. Take the Ring Road until either of the two exits to road 4170. When you reach the big intersection where 4170 goes 90 ° and you see a beautiful Buddhist gate with a sign to the Wat Kirimat temple, go through the gate..
Follow the temple and the road ends at the Tongtanod pier. This is the middle of Tong Tanot beach.
