Thong Krut Beach is located on the south side of Koh Samui between the beaches Tong Tanot (Thong Tanot) and Bang Kao (Bang Khao). Just as the beaches of the northern part are similar to each other Maenam and Bo Phut, Thong Krut one in one resembles Bang Khao, the difference between them is only in the length of the beach. Thong Krut stretches for 1.5 km along a sparsely populated part of Samui, the width of the beach is from 7 to 15 meters in high water, and at low tide, a shallow bottom is exposed.

The sand on the Tong Krut beach is very coarse, almost small pebbles, mixed with stones and corals. The color of the sand is light brown, and closer to the sea it becomes dark brown, with a touch of silt. At the bottom, large stones, pebbles and marine debris are added. The cleanliness of the beach is not maintained almost along its entire length, with the exception of a few sections, opposite the lonely resorts..
Of all one and a half kilometers of coastline, only a couple of hundred meters fits the definition of a full-fledged beach, with a normal width and relief.
Tong Krut is located on the opposite end of the island from the main active settlements. It is not crowded, there are very few tourists here, but there are many fishermen and local residents related to fishing and sea tourism. On the borders of the beach, on both sides of it, there are two estuaries of island rivulets, which act as drainage during heavy rains..
In these places there is a lot of soil reclaimed by streams and especially a shallow bottom. In the middle of the beach, a canal has been dug for boats so that they can approach the shore even at low tide. Thong Krut, like all the beaches of the south and west of Samui, is very shallow.
In case anyone is interested in reading about other places, I have a short overview of all the beaches of Koh Samui, will help you decide on the choice of the beach.
Entering the water, depth and waves
The underwater bald patch on Thong Krut reaches 500 m in length, and runs along the entire beach. This is one huge football field, hidden by half a meter of water. Naturally, at low tide, the beach, which is not particularly suitable for swimming, becomes completely unattractive. Stones, silt, mud, sea surprises and irregularities in the bottom contribute to the unpopularity of Tong Krut, making it interesting only for lovers of exotic and contemplation..
The beach cannot be called convenient for parents with children. Despite the shallow depth and seeming attractiveness for the little ones, the bottom will not allow barefoot swimming. But on Tong Krut things are great with waves that never happen here, thanks to the very shallow water. Like most beaches in the south of the island, the shallows dampen a big wave, but in windy weather it is still not comfortable here..
Sun beds and shade
Due to the slope of the coast, which allows waves, in high water, to finish off the buildings on the coast, most of the private areas of Tong Krut are protected by concrete and stone parapets. For the same reason, the small tongkrutov resorts do not have the opportunity to put stationary sun loungers on the beach. All of them are in the possession of resorts, beach infrastructure on Thong Krut, as such - no.
Thong Krut beach area is located at the farthest point of the island from Chaweng. If Chaweng is the perfect revival, then Tong Krut is the perfect wilderness. Slightly closer to Tong Krut are located Lamai and Nathon.
Thirty meters from the coast is a section of road 4170, which, conventionally, is a ring road for the southern, flat part of Koh Samui. The distance between the road and the sea is very small, so there are mainly restaurants and private establishments along the coast. With large stores on Tong Krut, everything is bad, with mini-markets, the situation is exactly the same..
There are several taishops with beer, chips and snacks, but the main grocery purchases are made by the locals in Tesco Lotus, closest to the beach, on Lamai.
Not far from Thong Krut there are sights that are worth seeing:
- Laem Sor Pagoda;
- Buddha Stupa, aka Khao Chedi;
- Kirimat Temple (War Kee Ree Mat);
- Temple boat with a statue of a monk
A large crowd of boats and boaters allow you to arrange a private tour to the nearby islands of Ko Tan and Ko Matsum, or buy a snorkeling tour, or simply go for a sea fishing trip. But for boat trips, it is better to take a ride to the neighboring Tong Tanot. There are several restaurants on the shore with sea views and the freshest seafood every day.
Houses and hotels on the beach
Only two resorts are located directly on Thong Krut beach, two more are located just behind road 4170, and, within 400-500 meters from the sea, private houses of local residents are scattered, some of them offer accommodation for rent. There are no large hotels on Thong Krut, and the built-up part of the beach is surrounded by jungle and farm plots.
One of the hotels right on the beach is Las Palmas Boutique Hotel, a quiet and generally pleasant place. If you want to book a hotel here in advance or look for accommodation on other beaches, I have selection of hotels on Koh Samui with a good rating and reviews.

Be sure (and I insist) to check for discounts or special offers on the excellent Roomguru service. He will quickly and easily show you discounts in all existing booking systems. In Asia, for example, there are a lot of offers on Agoda.com, which are much more interesting than for exactly the same hotels on Booking.com.
For the lazy, here is a direct link to the above hotel - Las Palmas Boutique Hotel .
How to find the beach
About a kilometer in length, Thong Krut Beach runs along road 4170. There is no need to go through private areas to get to the beach, there are plenty of wastelands and one Thai store that I went through. There are no particularly outstanding landmarks for finding Thong Krut Beach, except for itself..
So take the Ring Road to either of the two exits to Road 4170, and when you get to the 90 ° sharp bend and see the sea, this is the middle of Thong Krut.
